That’s why lung cancer screening is so important. Screening can detect cancer early, when it’s most treatable. It’s performed through a low-dose computerized tomography (CT) scan — an X-ray of your lungs that could lead to life-saving care.

Not sure if you should get screened? Follow these guidelines from HCA Healthcare’s Sarah Cannon Cancer Network. If you’re between age 50 and 80 and you meet at least one of the criteria shown here, you’re eligible for a low-dose CT scan. If you have Medicare, you must be 50 to 77 to be eligible. Top marks from the nationally recognized Leapfrog Group – Congratulations, Henrico, Parham and Retreat Doctors’ Hospitals!

The Leapfrog Group, which advocates for positive change in healthcare, released fall 2025 grades, rating hospitals for patient safety. Henrico, Parham and Retreat Doctors’ Hospitals have been recognized with an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade. This news celebrates the facilities’ commitment to patient safety and use of resources.

Ryan Jensen, CEO of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, shared, “Our three campuses prioritize patient safety and the experience in each facility. It's our dedicated colleagues – at every level – driving the “A” grade-rating and recognition as three of America’s safest hospitals from The Leapfrog Group!”

The Leapfrog Group assigns grades, ranging from “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F”, to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures while also monitoring errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

Several HCA Virginia hospitals have received multiple 2026 Specialty Excellence awards from Healthgrades, the leading consumer resource for finding a hospital or doctor.

The awards recognize hospitals with superior clinical performance in 16 specialties and the distinction places Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, Parham Doctors’ Hospital and Retreat Doctors’ Hospital in the top 10 percent of all U.S. hospitals specializing in these areas.

In Virginia, HCA Healthcare hospitals led the rankings for surgical care excellence. Northern Virginia’s Reston Hospital Center earned the Commonwealth’s No. 1 spot with Henrico Doctors’ Hospital a close second in delivering superior patient outcomes in surgical care and orthopedic surgery.

The 2026 Specialty Excellence recognitions reflect HCA Virginia’s commitment to providing the best care possible and distinguish the hospitals as leading the commonwealth in specialty care. Healthgrades evaluated outcomes at more than 4,500 hospitals across over 30 common procedures and conditions for these awards.

50 years! Parham Doctors’ Hospital – which opened the doors for the Henrico County campus in August of 1975 – celebrated a golden milestone this month! Five decades of caring for our community!

Colleagues, physicians, local officials and friends of Parham, connected on a beautiful fall day reflecting on Parham Doctors’ history and looking ahead to its future. An innovative facility, already recognized as a specialty hospital for orthopedic care, is a leader in the region – as the only center in Central Virginia providing endoscopic spine procedures. This ultra-minimally invasive surgery offers a rapid recovery time with some post-procedure patients reporting a zero level of pain – having arrived struggling for years at level ten when other options had not delivered relief. Making innovative care like this available brings a quality of life so many are striving to return to – possible.

Smiles and excitement bubbled as long-tenured colleagues, were celebrated and new colleagues learned about 50 years of care and innovation that began in 1975. Everyone agreed, Parham Doctors’ demonstrates excellence because of the colleagues and the service of community partners.

The celebration included a ceremonial dogwood tree planted on campus – which will grow in tandem with Parham Doctors’ Hospital!

Special appreciation to our guests The Honorable Delegate Destiny LeVere Bolling of the 80th District, Henrico Co. County Manager John Vithoulkas and Henrico County Fire Chief, Jackson Baynard with Henrico County Fire and EMS, for sharing in this celebration with the team!

Henrico Doctors’ Hospitals was envisioned, founded and supported by a group of independent physicians looking to provide high quality patient care in an accessible community setting.
