Boundaries. Why are they so important? Often, they set up guardrails for what you will and will not tolerate in your life.

It’s a necessity to have boundaries because it can sometimes be needed to “teach people how to treat you”; thereby helping you maintain positive emotional and mental health.

When someone ignores your boundaries, it may mean that they are not willing to accept the decision you’ve made concerning how you’ve decided to live your life. It’s important in these situations to maintain your boundaries because they set a tone for what healthy living means to you and those who respect you, will respect that.

Make the decision today to only accept treatment that is respectful and adheres to your boundaries.

“Boundaries define our limits and protect our inner peace.”

Here it is. If you’ve been waiting for encouragement to make that needed change in your life; to step away from that unhealthy relationship; activity; work environment; thought process; etc.; THIS is that encouragement.

It may be difficult to make a decision to step away from something you’ve grown used to; especially if it’s a relationship. But if it’s unhealthy and detrimental to you, then it is necessary to end it in order to make a positive change in your life.

Remember, you CAN do hard things. Walking away from something that is unhealthy for you can be hard…but it is also brave.

Don’t give up.

You may not feel like you’re seeing any progress. You may be questioning why you’re continuing to exercise; go to classes; work on that (healthy) relationship; try to achieve that goal. You may even be having an unpleasant day; a hard week; a distressing month; or a difficult year. But don’t give up.

If you need support, reach out to friends and family that you trust. Hire a nutritionist and/or trainer. Connect with a tutor or join a study group. Find a therapist who can help you process and work through the issues you are experiencing.

Breathe, pray, cry, even shout.

But keep moving forward and don’t
give
up.

Have you ever heard the saying, “It’s a bad day, NOT a bad life?” It can be annoying to hear if you’re not in a positive headspace, but the saying is true.

Sometimes (especially if you are already experiencing symptoms of depression) having a negative interaction, bad experience, or even a day of unfortunate events, can be triggering and all-consuming. All of a sudden it feels less like you’re having a bad day and more like you’re having an awful life.

It’s important to try to counteract sinking into dysfunctional-thinking by using self-awareness, self-reflection, and processing the negative occurrences to remind yourself that this ‘feeling’ of discontent, WILL pass.

Next time you find yourself feeling this way, choose to focus on even one positive aspect about your day (week, month, life) in order to remind yourself that there ARE reasons for you to be positive/proud/hopeful/inspired, etc. Everyday may not be good but there is something good in everyday.

If you’re experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety seek help from a professional counselor. We’d love to help you.

The truth is change isn’t always good. It can often be unexpected, unwelcome, and isn’t always necessarily positive. However, when you are making the ‘right’ change, it can have a healthy impact on your life.

So make a healthy change today. Try counseling even though you have never met with a therapist before; end that toxic relationship that makes you feel like you have no worth; cut your alcohol intake because excessive drinking has negative consequences on your behavior; start a new workout despite being intimidated by it; etc. Make that change that you know you need to but have been too scared to do.

“Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.”

‘Excuses’ can seem like the most helpful things in the world. They give us a reason to stop trying; stop working hard; stop doing the things that don’t give us instant gratification; stop growing in areas we need growth in; etc.

However, excuses don’t do us any favors. Typically, they impede growth; interrupt progress; disrupt relationships or situations that need to be mended; and often make difficult situations even worse.

So be stronger than your strongest excuse. Face the difficult situations; do the hard things that are ultimately best for you. In the end you will not regret it, and often you will find personal growth awaits you on the other side.

Come on in! We are happy you’re here! Let’s take a tour of our office 😁

Starting therapy can be so scary and overwhelming. Not knowing what to expect or what the therapy process is like (or what your therapist might be like 😆) can all cause panic and distress to seeking the support you need.

Maybe if you see where therapy takes place, it might help you to feel safe and more at ease in making the decision to take that next step ☀️💛

We are here for you. Let’s build a brighter day together!

Hello November 🧡🍂🍁 As our days grow shorter and the holidays rampantly approach, let us take a moment and take a breath. I mean really, take a breath. Stop. 🍂 Slow down. 🍂 Breath. 🍂 Be still. 🍂 Can you do it? Can you be still? • Let’s take some time to practice being still this November. Sounds easy enough - being still. But being still is a practice many of us struggle with. Especially during this season 🧡 🍂 What has stillness taught you? I’d love to hear about your experience with stillness.

It’s National World Trauma Day.

What is trauma?

Trauma is a complex topic with several facets. Let’s start by using a broad lens when learning about trauma. According to the center of anxiety disorders at https://www.centerforanxietydisorders.com/what-is-trauma/ “trauma can be defined as a psychological, emotional response to an event or an experience that is deeply distressing or disturbing”. This can be something that you have personally experienced or witnessed.

Trauma is deeply felt and it’s symptoms can take over your life. The symptoms of trauma are great and affect a person in a variety of ways, from feeling unsafe, disconnected, fearful, anxious, having fits of rage to having memory trouble. Trauma not only affects our psyche but it also affects our bodies. From disrupted sleep, nightmares, stomach aches, headaches, body tension and chronic illness just to name a few.

There are many effective treatments for trauma, including cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR therapy, neurofeedback therapy and trauma informed therapy.

It’s time to work through our trauma so we can live a fuller more peaceful life and help to heal future generations. Trauma rewires the brain, but so does therapy! There is HOPE! There is HELP! We can build a brighter day together. You deserve it!

It’s world Mental Health Day!!! 🌎💚

Between COVID, the rising cost of EVERYTHING and a growing culture of disconnection, how are you caring for your mental health?

Mental health impacts all areas of our everyday life. It is the key factor in how we think, feel and act.

Because of this, our mental health impacts every area of our life. From school, to work, and within our relationship with our family and friends. It’s also has a significant impact on how we respond to our children.

It’s time that we rethink the importance that our mental health plays within our lives. Let’s change the conversion about mental health and let’s start to value our mental wellness as part of our foundation to a healthy life.

You deserve healing 💚

You deserve to be heard💚

Your story matters💚
