HandCraft Linen Services

HandCraft Linen Services HandCraft Services offers the most innovative & highest-quality medical linen and apparel products. HandCraft Services was founded by John A. Nichols in 1969.

We are a family-owned and operated business that still values superior customer service and integrity – you’ll see it in our soft-touch, proactive customer service. He built a small dry cleaning business on the philosophy of always going the extra mile, one customer at a time. HandCraft continues to live out that philosophy today and our family business continues to grow as John’s sons, Keith, Jay, and Jeff, carry the torch forward. All our services and products comply or exceed Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and state standards and regulations. We stay on the leading edge of new technology and set the pace for our industry. Our family-run business is environmentally-conscious and community-oriented. In addition to our industry-leading green initiatives, HandCraft supports our community, health systems, numerous charities, and much more every year. You can feel great about the high-tech, soft-touch company you’re working with and what we’re doing globally and locally.

Clear policies are important, but explaining the why behind them matters just as much.

This week’s Linen Education Tip from Dyan Troxel encourages teams to review linen policies regularly and communicate the reasoning behind updates so staff understand their purpose and importance.

The first 78 degree and sunny day here in Richmond, VA... and HandCraft is thoroughly enjoying it. What a beautiful day to launder some linen! 🫧 🌞

Where heat meets precision. 🔥

Here’s our flatwork ironer in action, where freshly washed sheets are dried, pressed, and smoothed to perfection. As each piece moves through heated rollers, wrinkles disappear and crisp, patient-ready linens come out the other side.

It’s precision, heat, and teamwork — all working together to deliver quality you can feel.

Success starts with clarity. 💡

In this week’s Linen Education Tip, Dyan Troxel, MSN, RN, encourages teams to define what success looks like before launching a linen awareness initiative. Set measurable goals, track your impact, and adjust as needed.

Clear goals lead to stronger results.

Precision in every stitch 🧵✨

Inside our Embroidery Department at HandCraft, our multi-head Tajima machines are hard at work customizing scrubs and lab coats for hospitals and non-acute facilities. Each machine can embroider multiple garments at once, stitching thousands of precise stitches per minute with computer-guided accuracy.

The result? Clean, consistent logos and names completed quickly and efficiently so our healthcare partners look professional and polished every day. 💙

This past week, one of our Linen Distribution Teams stopped by to connect with our Chief Experience Officer, Will, and Director of Customer Experience, Corinne. Linen Education – Tip of the Week with Dyan 🍎 🩺 ✏️

Strong linen management starts with clear ownership. Assigning a dedicated leader helps create accountability, consistency, and lasting culture change across teams.

When everyone knows who is leading the effort, it becomes easier to protect linen resources, reduce loss, and keep operations running smoothly.

We were proud to host the UNC Nash team for a tour of our Wilson facility. From the soil side through every stage of processing, our Production Manager, Rob, walked the group through our full workflow and quality standards, offering a firsthand look at how linen moves through our system. The visit wrapped up with lunch and a great Q&A discussion to recap key takeaways.

Thank you, UNC Nash, for spending the day with us!
