Why Lipoedema Clients Prefer Different Pressure Levels in Lymphatic Massage
Lipoedema tissue is unique, and every body responds differently. Clients usually fall into one of two groups those who love firm stroking pressure and those who need lighter, gentle touch. Here’s why:
1. Sensory nerves in lipedema are more sensitive. Lipoedema tissue has. More nerve endings. Increased inflammation. Higher pain sensitivity. Some clients find light touch irritating or ticklish, and prefer a firmer, grounding pressure. Others become more tender with inflammation and can only tolerate gentle, soothing touch.
2. Fascia tension changes how pressure feels. Lipoedema often comes with Tight fascia, Adhesions, Reduced glide between layers. When fascia is tight. Firm strokes feel “releasing” and give an immediate sense of relief. Light strokes may not engage the fascia enough to feel satisfying. But when fascia is inflamed or very sensitive. Gentle touch feels safest. Firm pressure may flare symptoms
3. Fluid load in the tissue affects comfort. Lipoedema tissue holds excess interstitial fluid. When the tissue feels. Pressurised or tender clients prefer lighter work. Heavy, congested, or tight clients enjoy firmer stroking to “move the pressure
4. Hormones change pressure tolerance. Many lipoedema clients notice their pressure preference changes with Menstrual cycle. Perimenopause, Menopause, High stress or poor sleep. Oestrogen fluctuations influence. Pain sensitivity, Fluid retention, Connective tissue tension. This explains why the same client may want different pressure on different days.
5. Emotional & nervous system factors. Massage is not just physical it also affects the nervous system. Some clients prefer. Firmer pressure to feel grounded, supported, and stable. Lighter pressure when their body is overstimulated or stressed. Their system chooses what feels safest at that moment.
