Marsh is back in the saddle! After being thrown from her horse causing a broken femur, six broken ribs, a broken collarbone, and a punctured lung, Marsh faced a long road to recovery. She arrived at Sheltering Arms Institute determined to reach one goal: to get back on her horse.

Marsh praises Dr. Hupe and her care team for being the first to diagnose her head trauma alongside her other injuries.

Today, she’s back to riding her own horse, Honey, and feeling better than ever. “To be able to have the independence to get on my horse and ride is phenomenal,” Marsh shared.

Congratulations on all your hard work, Marsh! You earned every stride. 🐎✨

In the middle of the night, when Paula woke up to take care of her newborn grandchild, she noticed her husband, Nate, was having a stroke in bed.

Due to left-sided weakness caused by the stroke, Nate came to our inpatient rehab hospital determined to regain his strength. Through occupational, physical, and speech therapy, he’s made incredible progress. When he first arrived, Nate scored 3 out of 56 on his balance test. By the time he graduated from inpatient rehab, he had improved his score to 40 out of 56 — a remarkable gain that reflects his hard work and dedication.

“Working with my care team has been amazing. Seeing all the knowledge they have and the way they apply it with the technology they have is incredible,” Nate said. Paula agreed, saying, “They went hand over hand in teaching me how to assist him. It’s like family—they show that love for us every step of the way.”

Nate continues to work hard in outpatient therapy so he can build his strength and get back to being the best grandfather he can be. Keep up the great work, Nate!

We’re so thankful for our community – our patients, families, volunteers, donors, and team members – who make these recoveries possible. Wishing everyone a warm and joyful Thanksgiving! 🦃 🍁 🥧
