Today's tip - count your breaths.

Any time you find yourself looking at mindfulness tips and techniques, you are going to read about your breathing and "coming back to it".

Sometimes counting our breaths as we breathe in and out helps to keep us centered in the moment of our experience. Try counting at intervals of 10 - 1 breath in, 2 breath out, and so on - then repeat for 2 minutes.

Today's tip for your day - try an app!

Sometimes a little help and encouragement as to how to do something which is new for us makes all the difference, and there are a lot of great meditation apps out there.

Headspace, Calm, Insight Timer, and a number of others are great ways to familiarize yourself with a new mindfulness practice and to get you started out on the right foot. They are also great for improving your current practice with guided meditation(s).

For today's tip, we are going back to the basics!

Today's tip: practice seated/sitting meditation.

Sitting meditation is great because it allows for a more singular focus for your mindfulness practice. Standing or walking can easily cause the mind to wander and make it much more difficult to quiet the mind, however sitting helps to keep you centered AND will aid in your efforts to keep your mind clear and focused.

It's again already! Today's recommendation - the meditation minute.

Sometimes it feels like our days are in hyperdrive and times passes more quickly than we thought it might. Working a meditation time in can be difficult, but it doesn't have to be!

Taking a minute to check in with yourself is sometimes all you need. Set a timer on your phone for one minute and focus entirely on your breathing. If you begin to lose touch with your breathing and wander into your thoughts, acknowledge them and bring yourself back to your breath.

A minute can do a lot to get you back on track and feeling centered - give it a shot today!

Today's recommendation - cut back on your sessions if necessary.

We know - it might sound strange coming from a therapist, however sometimes a weekly therapy appointment can end up feeling rushed or like a burden with everyone else going on in our lives.

Communicate your needs to your therapist; maybe you are in a position where a once per month check in would be good, or maybe that's all you can manage currently. If so, know that your therapist will work with you to increase your sessions again when you feel it is appropriate.

Today's tip for you - take a walk.

Walking is one of the easiest ways to put yourself in a mindful space since we do it so often throughout our days. Pay attention to the feeling of the Earth beneath your feet, the wind on your face, the smell of he air.

Instead of focusing on your breathing, you will be focused on your steps and the lifting and placing down of each of your feet as you move.

Take a few minutes today and give it a shot!

We have another tip for you today - set a time limit.

If (and especially) if you are new(er) to a mindfulness practice, set a time limit of 5 or so minutes. This will help you to build your practice gradually and not overwhelm you as you start out. While your ultimate goal may be to spend 30 minutes or more in meditation, we recommend working your way up in smaller increments.
