November is National Hospice Month! All month long, we'll share stories and highlight the staff and programs that make our work possible.

Today, we’re highlighting out Grief and Loss Support program.

Hospice care is not just about caring for patients. It’s also about supporting families through times of loss. At Hospice Care Plus, our grief and loss support program provide comfort, guidance, and community for those navigating the journey after the death of a loved one.

When we were contacted by two local schools who had faced sudden loss, Hospice Care Plus was able to provide care kits, like the one shown below, to offer comfort and support to students and staff as they navigated their journey through grief. These kits are just one way we help our community heal and feel supported during difficult times. Through support groups, workshops and resources that support the community, we help people heal while honoring the memories of those they love.

To learn more about our grief and loss support program, visit www.hospicecareplus. org or call Denise McKinney at 859-986-1500.

We're excited about the 2025 Remembrance Tree Ceremony, coming up on December 7! If you're planning on attending, or you're curious about the event, we thought we'd share some "Frequently Asked Questions" about this year's ceremony.

WHEN AND WHERE IS THIS YEAR’S CEREMONY TAKING PLACE?
This year's ceremony will be held on Sunday, December 7, at First Baptist Church (425 Eastern Bypass, Richmond, KY). The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m., but we encourage you to arrive by 1:30 to pick up your reserved ornaments and find a seat.

WILL THE CEREMONY BE LIVE-STREAMED?
The ceremony will take place in person this year. While we live-streamed in past years due to pandemic restrictions, we’re happy to return to our traditional format where families and friends can gather in person to honor their loved ones.

DO I NEED A RESERVATION TO ATTEND?
You’re welcome to attend without a reservation! However, if you’d like to reserve a memorial ornament, please contact us by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4. After that time, ornaments can be requested at the ceremony on Dec. 7!

DID MY LOVED ONE HAVE TO BE CARED FOR BY HOSPICE CARE PLUS TO RESERVE AN ORNAMENT?
Not at all. Everyone who wishes to honor or remember a loved one during the holiday season is welcome to participate, whether or not Hospice Care Plus provided their care.

WILL ORNAMENTS BE AVAILABLE AT THE EVENT ON SUNDAY?
Yes. A limited number of 2025 memorial ornaments will be available at the ceremony. To be sure you receive a personalized ornament though, we encourage you to reserve yours by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, by calling 859-986-1500.

WILL THERE BE A MEMORIAL SLIDESHOW THIS YEAR?
Due to staffing limitations and our wish to return to the traditional, pre-pandemic format of the Remembrance Tree Ceremony, we will not be including a memorial slideshow. But we’re looking forward to honoring each loved one by reading names aloud, enjoying special music, and spending meaningful time together in fellowship.

HOW DO I RESERVE AN ORNAMENT?
You may reserve your ornaments by visiting https://hospicecareplus.salsalabs.org/remembrancetree2025/index.html or by giving us a call at 859-986-1500. You may also stop by the Compassionate Care Center (350 Isaacs Lane, Richmond) and fill out an ornament request. There is no cost for ornaments, but we do encourage a donation, which supports patient care and services across our 6-county service region.

Today is National Philanthropy Day, celebrating the power of giving.

We are grateful for the donors who support our patient care programs annually, our community who support our fundraising events, local businesspeople who donate their services, and volunteers who give their time. All bring quality of life and compassion to the seriously ill, family caregivers, and those who grieve. Every effort, regardless of its magnitude or form, makes a real difference in the lives of those we serve.

We are especially grateful for Melanie and Stefanie, whose work makes this possible. They write grants, create and manage events, reach out to and coordinate with community partners, and ensure our charitable programs are well managed and understood. Their work helps build a community that supports us all.

Happy Philanthropy Day to our donors and our fundraising staff.

Thank you for the tangible difference you make in so many lives!

National Hospice Month program highlight:
Honoring Veterans Through Compassionate Care

Through the "We Honor Veterans" program, Hospice Care Plus celebrates the dedication and service of patients who have served in the military. One of the ways we honor our veteran patients is through a bedside ceremony. In this ceremony, a veteran volunteer will visit with the patient and present them with a certificate of appreciation for their service.

For veterans like Mr. Howe, a Korean War veteran who said it was “the first time I’ve been thanked,” this simple act brings peace, pride, and closure to the patient and family.

This Veterans Day, we honor all who have served our country. Thank you to every veteran for your courage, dedication, and sacrifice. You inspire us every day.

Today, we invite you to join us in making every day a gift for the patients and families we serve by "Gifting A Day of Care". To learn more, scan the QR code below, visit www.hospicecareplus.org or give us a call at 859-986-1500.

Hopeful, Expert, Compassionate Care

We take pride in hopeful, compassionate, expert care that recognizes that life continues even when there is no cure. We work with you, your caregiver, your family, and your doctors to control symptoms at home so you can focus on what matters: what you want life to look like for the next several months. What do you want to do and experience? Where do you want to be? What are you fighting for, working towards, planning for, and how can we help you get there?

Whether you’re part of our hospice or palliative programs, and regardless of whether your care is in your home or at our Compassionate Care Center, our goal is simple: to help you achieve the highest quality of life and to support your caregiver and family. We emphasize dignity, hope, and compassion as we provide specialized medical and team care to manage pain, symptoms, and other challenges.

We work alongside patients and families to make every moment matter. Read more about us at www.hospicecareplus.org, or savor inspiring stories of our patients, families, and staff as they pursue bucket-list wishes together--truly making every moment matter-- at www.hcpblogs.com. Then, contact us: learn about our programs, become a volunteer, apply for employment, give your financial support, or interact with us on Facebook.

We are a non-profit hospice serving Madison, Estill, Jackson, Lee, Owsley and Rockcastle counties. We offer both hospice and palliative care as well as a bereavement program. We also own and operate the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, a short-term inpatient hospice facility for symptom management and respite care.
