Cannabis Associated with Inflammatory Eye Conditions

The drug’s use resulted in higher odds of developing uveitis and other diseases affecting the posterior segment.

Smoked cannabis will generate combustion products that have reactive oxygen species as well as oxidative byproducts; this will induce oxidative stress and promote inflammatory cascades in ocular tissues. The American Heart Association has even warned that cannabis use promotes oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction. As a result, this may lead to a compromised blood-retinal barrier and increased vascular permeability, thus facilitating ocular inflammation.
