New Year, Same Mission — “To prevent pain and alleviate suffering.” 🩺🩻⚕️🦷
For the month of January, the EKU Remote Area Medical (RAM) Chapter is hosting a Pick-a-Date Calendar Fundraiser, and we would love your support!
Our chapter was founded this past February, but it has grown quickly and now includes nearly 50 dedicated members. Our mission is to serve Eastern Kentucky and surrounding communities, helping bring healthcare to those who are uninsured or who live in remote areas without access to care.
Since our founding, we have been honored to serve our neighbors during times of crisis. After the Pikeville floods, we assisted families by cleaning homes and salvaging belongings. Following the London tornado, we helped clear debris, move valuables, and provided hot meals and supplies to affected families and workers.
We also organized donation drives for both events to help our community recover.
With the support of generous donors, we were able to attend our first RAM clinic in Lick Creek, KY, where our members volunteered an entire weekend disinfecting rooms, sterilizing dental instruments, and assembling prescription glasses. Together with other RAM volunteers, we helped provide 265 patients with free dental, medical, and vision care, totaling $191,303 in services.
We have since volunteered at a second clinic in Eidson, TN, where 194 patients received $223,629 worth of FREE healthcare services. Each of us played a critical role in ensuring patients received care that might otherwise never be accessible.
To continue this work, we rely entirely on fundraising and donations. Each RAM clinic costs approximately $1,400 per trip for lodging, food, and travel. Our January Pick-a-Date Calendar Fundraiser helps cover these expenses so our members can continue volunteering at clinics across the region.
How to participate:Pick a date in January and donate the dollar amount that matches the date (ex: Jan 5 = $5, Jan 25 = $25).
Donations can be made via Venmo -Halsey (our treasurer), or by cash or check.
Our goal is to fill the entire calendar so hotel rooms and meals can be provided for our student volunteers as they serve at upcoming RAM clinics. Any contribution—big or small—is deeply appreciated.
Thank you so much for supporting EKU RAM and helping us continue our mission to prevent pain and alleviate suffering. 💙🐏
