Full Circle Grief Center

Full Circle Grief Center Central Virginia's comprehensive grief and bereavement resource. The risk is high for that family to break apart.

Full Circle Grief Center was founded in 2008 in response to the great need in Central Virginia to help families who had experienced the death of someone they loved – most often a father or spouse. Those families and their at-risk children were too often grieving in isolation without support – and often did not have the funds to pursue private counseling or other forms of grief support. Our programs have touched more than 9,000 lives. Our goals are to help grieving individuals:

• Increase communication with family members so families stay together in grief
• Learn coping skills to deal with traumatic events and grief
• Build support networks to reduce isolation
• Heal through creative expression

Full Circle is very unique in its approach to bereavement care:

- We combine professionally-designed grief support programs with creative expression in the form of art, music, play, dance and journaling to trigger discussions that may not have occurred otherwise.

- We are the only organization in Richmond to provide bereavement groups for extended families along with age-appropriate groups simultaneously. Families learn to grieve together rather than in isolation.

- We are also the only organization in Richmond to provide bereavement support to underserved students at their inner-city school. The need is so high that we are focusing our efforts on traumatic death. We rely 100% on the community to provide these services free of charge to all participants through our three main programs:

Counseling Groups for Families:
• Hands On Healing for children ages 3-18 and their families.
• Perinatal Loss Group for parents who are grieving the death of a baby.
• Suicide Loss Group for adults and school-aged children grieving a loss by suicide. Outreach Groups for Underserved At-Risk Youth at:
• Inner-city schools
• Community partner sites: ChildSavers, Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority, etc.
• Richmond City Police Department (Homicide Support Group)

Grief Education:
• Bereavement training for local professionals and community members
• Published the area’s first and only comprehensive grief resource manual

Sometimes loss can be deeply personal, and other times an entire community or nation can find themselves wrapped in collective grief from a specific event, such as the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.

In this essay of photography and text from the National Museum of African American History and Culture (Smithsonian) the legacy and reverberation of this national moment of grief is explored and witnessed.

*****

"The assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. on April 4, 1968, dashed the hopes of black Americans for the commitment of white America to racial equality. White Americans respected him more than other black leaders, but his opposition to the Vietnam War infuriated many. His continued insistence on nonviolent protests frustrated black activists. But in 1968 he still led the struggle for civil rights. “The murder of King changed the whole dynamic of the country,” recalled Black Panther Kathleen Cleaver."

📣 Big announcement for our Full Circle community! 📣 If you’ve visited Full Circle’s offices over the last year, you’ve undoubtedly noticed the changes occurring to the landscape around us. Several buildings have been removed, businesses have relocated, and other structural changes have occurred.

Recently, our building management company has announced plans for the construction of new mixed-use units, consisting of a combination of retail businesses and apartments, on the site beginning in 2026, resulting in the demolition of our current building.

Meanwhile, Full Circle has experienced rapid growth in our staff, clients, and the number of programs we deliver, making physical space a consideration in our daily operations.

Because of these changes, we have made the decision to relocate Full Circle’s offices to a new location in Henrico County.

We recognize this change comes with many emotions, especially since we have been located at 10611 Patterson Avenue since the very beginning in 2008. However, we earnestly believe that this is the best choice for our clients, partners, and the community we serve moving forward. 💙

Starting mid-February 2026, our new location will be 5511 Staples Mill Road, Suite 301 in Richmond, Virginia.

Our new offices will cover more than half of the building’s third floor suite, making for several much-needed improvements as our programs have grown far beyond what our existing walls can hold.

Read more about our relocation and what it means for the clients and communities we serve at our announcement on our website, linked below or in our link in bio. 🔗

2025 was a big one for us at Full Circle. We had the privilege of serving numerous clients in the heart of Virginia: children, families, couples, adults, individual clients, support group participants, and more. Our dedicated team made a profound impact on their grief journeys, providing them with the support and guidance they needed during their healing process.

The true impact of our work can be seen in the lives of those we have had the privilege of serving. Through our commitment to providing high-quality care, we witnessed individuals finding solace, gaining resilience, and experiencing personal growth amidst their grief.

We are incredibly grateful to all those (all 1,360 of you!) who placed their trust in us and allowed us to be an integral part of their journey towards healing. 💙

We love these gentle reminders and suggestions from the National Alliance for Children's Grief (NACG) on how to approach those New Year's resolutions from a place of kindness and self-compassion while grieving. 💙

"As we step into a new year, it's a time when you may think of the transformations and opportunities that lie ahead—symbolizing new beginnings. For those navigating the path of grief, we acknowledge that things do not change just because we entered a new year. If you're seeking realistic resolutions for grievers, here are some thoughtful suggestions to consider. If resolutions don't align with you currently—that's absolutely fine, too! Remember, your grief journey is your own, and you deserve compassion and understanding."

As we close out the last days of 2025, we're looking forward to our next goals of serving our community in the coming year. In doing so, we encourage support from you -- our champions, our cheerleaders, our former clients, our friends and neighbors -- our community. 💙

You've heard a lot from us about how grief doesn't care. But we are so grateful that you do care. Thank you for your steadfast support in believing in the work we do.

Every gift, no matter the size, can make a difference and bring us one step closer to achieving our 2026 goals of serving even more grieving children, adults, and families across Virginia.

Your contributions make a significant impact on our cause and help us continue our important work. Thank you for your support of Full Circle this holiday season, and all year round. 💙
