We had the opportunity to welcome Jessica Byers and Tiffany Burgess from The Weston Group to Mrs. Thompson’s CSD in Healthcare class.
As occupational therapists, they shared what their role looks like in real healthcare settings, how they collaborate with speech-language pathologists and other professionals, and helped our students better understand what interdisciplinary care truly looks like.

We are so grateful for practicing clinicians who take time out of their day to invest in our future SLPs and audiologists. Experiences like this are what make learning impactful.

Be Light Care equips caregivers of people living with dementia with practical, evidence-based tools they can use right away. Through hundreds of short, digestible videos, the program offers caregivers answers to questions around real-life challenges like memory loss, confusion, or refusals to eat. By providing caregivers with confident, clear and actionable strategies, Be Light Care empowers them to feel more capable and supported in their work.

Adria Thompson, MA, CCC-SLP, developed Be Light Care based on her years of experience in long-term care. In addition to her work with Be Light Care, Adria continues to speak across the globe (including her work as a TEDx presenter), providing consulting services for products and services related to people living with dementia, and helping train future SLPs at Eastern Kentucky University to be client advocates.

CSD 861 is a graduate-level elective focused primarily on craniofacial conditions. Students in the course recently joined Dr. Robinson for breakfast and WONDERful discussion. The novel, “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio, and subsequent film tell the interwoven stories of Auggie and his family, friends, & foes. Told from several different perspectives, "Wonder" pressed the students to think about the emotional weight of craniofacial differences and to remember this precept: “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.”

We’re incredibly proud to see EKU CSD represented so well! ❤️

HB266—adding Audiologists (AuD) and Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) to the Workforce Development Fund—passed unanimously out of Committee today! 👏
We are especially proud of Dr. Kellie Ellis for her outstanding leadership and advocacy on behalf of EKU, KSHA, and our professions. She continues to make a meaningful impact for our students, our field, and the communities we serve.

Check out the EKU shout out at 3:03!!
