Position Overview
Community Development, Inc. (CDI) is seeking a highly motivated, disciplined, and compassionate professional to serve as a Behavior Support Responder.
Due to the growth of our services and the increasing behavioral needs of individuals served, this position plays a critical role in ensuring individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) who experience behavioral challenges remain stable, safe, and supported within the community.
This is a mobile response role operating across all CDI programs, including residential, day services, community-based services, and other program locations as needed.
The Behavior Support Responder is designed to:
• Stabilize behavioral crises
• Provide immediate staff support
• Reduce hospitalizations
• Minimize law enforcement involvement
• Promote safe community integration
• Maintain compliance with Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH) standards

Primary Responsibilities
Respond immediately to behavioral crisis calls across CDI program locations
Conduct proactive visits to residential homes and program sites
Implement and reinforce Behavior Support Plans (BSPs)
Utilize approved de-escalation and MANDT techniques
Provide on-site coaching to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and program staff
Monitor high-risk individuals and provide early intervention support
Complete detailed crisis documentation and reports
Coordinate with clinical staff, nursing, and administration
Serve as liaison with emergency responders when necessary
Protect the dignity, safety, and rights of all individuals served

Position Structure
• Independent mobile role
• Assigned shift schedule (evenings/weekends may be required)
• CDI vehicle provided for work-related duties
• Rotational on-call response as needed
• May operate across residential homes, day programs (including 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. programs), and community settings

Required Qualifications
High School Diploma (Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred in Psychology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or related field)
Minimum 2 years experience working with IDD or behavioral populations
Experience in crisis intervention required
Valid Mississippi Driver’s License with clean driving record
Ability to pass background check and drug screening

Experience in the following areas is strongly preferred and considered highly valuable. This will be validated;
• Law Enforcement
• Security Services
• Military Service
• Corrections
• Crisis Response Units
Candidates with these backgrounds must be able to adapt their training to a person-centered, nonviolent, and trauma-informed IDD environment.

Required Certifications (or willingness to obtain within 90 days)
• Advanced Crisis Intervention Training
• MANDT Certification
• Person-Centered Thinking Training
• CPR / First Aid
Uniform & Professional Appearance
This role requires a structured professional appearance:
• BDU-style pants
• CDI-issued seasonal shirt (t-shirt or polo)
• Duty boots
• Belt with flashlight and approved non-harmful equipment
This position does not carry weapons. All interventions must align with nonviolent crisis standards, DMH regulations, and CDI policies.
