Spiderwort is a perennial wildflower. Long, grass like leaves with three petaled blooms, most often deep purple or blue, though in some regions they appear pink or white. When the stem is broken, the sap stretches into thin, web like threads, hence its namesake.
Itās a gentle plant, best known for soothing skin irritations, brewed as a light tea for digestive support, or simply adorning a fresh salad with its blossoms. Energetically, it carries a cooling and moistening nature.
But most importantly, this is a native pollinator plant and truly why I do not mow the cottage until well into June. The bees do not favor hybridized plants from big box stores, they seek the nutrient rich, the feral, the wild, the ones that still speak their language.
This time of year, the land hums, alive with wings and rhythm, a symphony of buzzing frequency in the key of C, surrounding the cottage.
