iFlow Yoga IFlow Yoga Teacher Trainings & Retreats ERYT, Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist -Amy Pastore amypastore.com

About Amy Pastore: Amy's yoga story began after years studying fitness and martial arts. She stepped into her first yoga class at the gym, looking for a good stretch and found that it wasn't exactly love at first down dog. The postural practice was challenging, not only physically, but the mental awareness and attention to detail were arduous. Amy traded in her boxing gloves for a yoga mat, her gym membership for class packages at her favorite yoga studio, Yoga Synthesis, and found her first and most influential teacher, Raji Thron. She took her first Yoga Teacher Training in 2006 and has since continued to grow and feed her insatiable desire to learn more from the multitude of amazing styles and teachers in the world. About iFlow: iFlow is a modern eclectic blend of the best of many different styles of yoga. iFlow honors past lineages and traditions, while evolving and moving forward with the current of the new age. An iFlow practitioner is an artist who steps into the flow and uses its energy and spirit to skillfully create more beauty & harmony in the body through movement on the mat.

The sun sets every night without hashtags, followers, or likes.
That’s an HONEST practice.
Older than trends. STONGER than taste.
What if we all showed up that way?

In Vinyasa or flow-based Yoga practice, Downward Facing Dog isn’t a standalone pose — it’s set up to transition. It’s inherited from Surya Namaskar, which means its distance is meant to align with Plank and Chaturanga.

When the stance is short, your not set up for the next pose and the transition won’t work. When the stance is longer, your set up for the fluid transition thru chaturanga.

A longer stance keeps the hips out of early end-range so they can organize load instead of the spine compensating.
Energetically, it preserves continuity — Down Dog stays part of the wave instead of becoming a reset.

This is why I teach a plank-based measure for Down Dog in vinyasa.
