Grand Junction, CO, October 30, 2025 – A group of 32 rural hospital and health organizations, as part of the Western Healthcare Alliance (WHA), want their Medicare patients to be better informed when choosing a plan in 2026.

Both patients and health systems have struggled with Medicare Advantage plans that affect patient care and system operations. Issues include long waits for authorizations, denial of medically necessary services, and delays in payments.

Dr. Lucy Budde is a Family Medicine physician who specializes in functional and longevity medicine. She is dedicated to helping patients live healthier, longer lives through a comprehensive, root-cause approach to medicine.

A Connecticut native, Dr. Budde earned her MD and PhD in Immunology from Yale University after completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Dr. Budde completed her internship and residency at The University of Colorado. Her research focused on the protein NF-κB, a key protein that regulates the body’s immune response. This work sparked her deep interest in how chronic inflammation influences nearly all chronic diseases and aging-a concept sometimes referred to as "inflammaging."

Certified in Functional Medicine, Dr. Budde treats the body as an integrated whole, addressing lifestyle, diet, and exercise to promote long-term health and prevent disease. She is currently pursuing additional certification in Longevity Medicine to help patients age better and avoid the chronic conditions often associated with aging.

Dr. Budde believes medicine must be more than medication—it should empower patients to make sustainable changes that enhance their overall well-being.

Outside of her medical practice, Dr. Budde enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and their Siberian Husky, Jax. She is an avid hiker, skier, and camper, and is excited to join the Grand River family.

Now accepting patients in the Rifle Clinic.

Grand River Health announces the addition of David Olsen, MD, to our Clinic West Family Medicine Team in Battlement Mesa.

Born in Venezuela and raised in the United States from the age of four, Dr. Olsen brings a rich cultural background, a deep sense of empathy and Spanish fluency to his medical practice. He grew up in rural Florida and Michigan and learned English in 2 weeks by watching Sesame Street.

Dr. Olsen earned his medical degree from the University of Washington in Seattle and completed his residency at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. His path to medicine was unique - before becoming a physician, he worked as a carpenter for 17 years. These experiences, including facing derision and being talked down to in healthcare settings, shaped his commitment to treating patients with dignity and compassion.

He believes in caring for the whole person, not just treating symptoms, and strives to uncover underlying causes of illness. His goal has always been to practice in a warm, rural community where he could truly make a difference. “I want my patients to know I understand pain, both physically and emotionally, because of my own life experiences.”

Dr. Olsen lives in Rifle with his wife Eva. Outside of medicine, Dr. Olsen enjoys birdwatching, nature photography, mountain biking, and hiking. He also cherishes spending time with his adult daughter in Washington state.

It’s no secret most people don’t love going to therapy to rehab an injured body part. But having Erin Hambrick in rehab quickly helps to change that. She knows how to connect with every person walking through the door and brings an energy into the office that is unmatched and infectious. We had no formal way of celebrating “graduation” for patients when they are done with therapy, but Erin has found a way to celebrate this exciting time. She made graduation awards for patients, got a mini microphone and speaker, and plays celebration music and will dance and sing to the patient as they finish up. I have seen reserved people come out of their shell and dance their way out the door. Erin transformed an ordinary moment into an unforgettable celebration of healing. Erin’s warmth and joy touches every person she encounters. She has a gift for making people feel seen and celebrated, valued and embraced. Erin reminds us that true healing is found not only in care and treatment, but also in love, laughter, and the courage to celebrate each milestone.

Congratulations to our October Starfish Winner, Erin Hambrick!
