The news story this morning about Bob Harper, Trainer of The Biggest Loser, having a massive heart attack while working out prompted a conversation about exercise. First of all, Bob Harper was pre-disposed to Heart Disease. His mother died from a heart attack as well, probably one of the reasons why Bob got into the industry. I had a friend whose whole family inherited a gene for heart disease. He watched his father die from a heart attack when his dad was 42 and he was 7. He used to tell me how horrid it was to watch and that he had decided very young NOT to die that way. He was active, his whole family is. They eat a balanced diet. My friend had started a movement around this time of year for his friends and family, "Move your Kiester before it's Easter". He was out riding his bike with his boys when his heart attack struck . He died on the side of the road with his young boys by his side.
My point is that yes, genetics may play a huge role in your death, but to prolong life and have a quality of life is the point.
I do not have heart disease in either side of my family. As a matter of fact, if we can stave off Diabetes, which is caused by diet, we live well into our 90's and 100's.
For the majority of us, Diet, portion control, exercise and sleep play an enormous role in not only how long we live but how long we enjoy living.
Stress is also a trigger for heart disease and raises the occurrence of Stroke and Heart Attack. Bob Harper not only was pre-disposed but also had triggers in his life such as a grueling schedule for TV and his personal life.
Life is unpredictable...enjoy life, do the things that will prevent disease and live like each day is your last.
Life is to short to be miserable...call us today and set up an appointment so we can help you make the most of it!
