Spill Response Technologies and Safety, LLC (SRT Safety), is seeking highly motivated, self-starters to join our team as environmental field technicians. This physically challenging, entry-level position involves irregular work schedules and extended hours while responding to petroleum and chemical emergencies. Ambitious individuals will be provided opportunities for additional training and professional growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Always work in a manner that ensures your personal safety and the safety of others.
· Perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, pushing & pulling heavy items, working long hours, sweeping, shoveling, carrying equipment, working on uneven surfaces, entering confined spaces, climbing ladders, standing for long periods of time, etc.
· Must be able to quickly respond to emergency incidents involving hazardous materials, petroleum products, non-regulated materials and biological contaminants at all hours, 365 days a year.
· Work flexible shifts including overtime, on-call shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
· Comply with DOT, OSHA, company, and other applicable regulations, guidelines, policies, and site-specific safety plans, etc.
· Frequently work in unpleasant conditions including inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity, rain, and snow.
· Ensure all assigned equipment is properly inspected, maintained and ready to be immediately mobilized on emergency response projects.
· Work under the direction of supervisor, foreman or manager on fixed facility and roadway cleanup projects. Must be able to interpret and follow written and oral instructions and assignments.
· Ability to read, understand and comply with written instructions including company policies, Safety Data Sheets, bills of lading, product labels, etc.
· Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), as required by company and established safety standards to prevent or minimize exposure to chemicals and other substances.
· Attend and successfully complete required training sessions and refresher courses.
· Perform a wide variety of non-emergency job functions including but not limited to: equipment maintenance, materials inventory, loading and unloading trucks, cleaning vehicles, tools and equipment, transporting equipment and materials in company vehicles, operate environmental, construction and spill response equipment as authorized, deliver supplies to customers, pick up supplies from vendors, and other tasks as assigned.
Candidate Preferences
· Previous experience in emergency spill response, environmental and hazardous material remediation is strongly preferred.
· Ideal candidates will be mechanically inclined and familiar with hand and powered tools and equipment.
· Ability to operate heavy equipment (skid-steer loaders, excavators, backhoes, ride-on street sweepers, etc.) is a plus.
· Class A commercial drivers license with hazardous materials endorsement
· Industry training and certifications strongly preferred: HAZWOPER Supervisor, Hazardous Materials Technician, Confined Space Entry, Heavy Equipment Operator training, DOT Hazardous Materials training, RCRA, fall protection, Hazard Communications, etc.
Job Requirements
· Candidates must be at least 18 years old and able to satisfactorily pass pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and a physical exam.
· Must have verifiable work experience in a manual labor field (construction, industrial services, emergency services, etc.).
· Must have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record and reliable transportation.
· In addition to typical business hours, work schedules will include after-hours, weekends and holidays as needed. Occasional travel may be required.
· Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including a respirator and chemical protective clothing for extended periods of time.
Required Education, Training and Certifications
· High school diploma or GED is required.
· Completion of 40 Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training is required prior to field work.
· OSHA 30 Hour General Industry Safety certification is preferred.
· Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) with Hazmat endorsement is required or must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
