Rio Grande City Grulla ISD Child Nutrition Program Leaders spent the day at 2F Akaushi Beef Ranch in Santa Elena, Tx.

It was day of visiting their operation, learning about the Akaushi beef quality, and discussing opportunities to futher expand the local food products we serve our students.

We’re excited to and continue to serve and meals our students feel good about🐄🥩🌱

Rio Grande City Grulla ISD Child Nutrition Program serves comfort foods with a purpose👩🏻‍🍳

Today, on "Miercoles Mexicano", we took a classic comfort favorite, like "Fideito", and prepared it with:
✅fresh ingredients
✅whole-grain pasta
✅thoughtfully selected cooking methods

💡When students recognize meals that feel familiar and satisfying, they are more likely to eat👧🏻👦🏻and when they eat, they receive the essential nutrients they need to focus, learn, and thrive in the classroom

Crunchy. Golden. TOT-ALLY awesome! 🥔

👀Did you know that tater tots were invented in the 1950s to turn leftover potatoes into a fun new food 😃 and kids have loved them ever since!

In celebration of this kid favorite, all of Rio Grande City Grulla ISD students from PK3 through 12th, East to West, will be enjoying golden, crunchy, delicious tater tots with their lunch today🍽️

💡Fun Fact: Potatoes are part of school meal patterns and count as a weekly starchy vegetable, which means they help give students energy to learn, play, and grow strong! 💪⚡

As part of a healthy and varied diet, Rio Grande City Grulla ISD students are offered red & orange vegetables weekly to help support their health 💪🏻 learning 🧠 and overall well-being 🤸🏻⛹🏻

Our Amazing 🤩 Child Nutrition Program serves red & orange vegetables like Carrots, Tomatoes & Sweet Potatoes which offer essential nutrients such as👇🏻

✅ Vitamin A (beta-carotene) ➡️ supports healthy vision, immune function & growth

✅ Vitamin C & Antioxidants (like lycopene) ➡️ help protect cells, support immunity, and promote overall wellness

✅ Fiber & Potassium ➡️ support healthy digestion, heart health, and help students stay energized and focused throughout the school day
