The Neighborhood is designed to offer more than one level of care on a single campus. We offer a range of housing, from seniors who want an increased sense of community and connection.

💕 Love is in the air at The Neighborhood in Rio Rancho!

This Valentine’s Day, residents were invited to share their love stories—from unexpected beginnings to moments that changed everything. Today, we’re heading back to a college marching band in the 1960s.

Meet Shirley and Don Underwood.

“The year was 1966 at Grove City College marching band practice. Don played the sousaphone and marched behind me while I played the trumpet. He liked what he saw and got up the courage to ask me out. Our first date was a Simon and Garfunkel concert—and the rest is history.

We married in 1970, raised two boys, traveled to every state—including Alaska and Hawaii—and made countless happy memories enjoying life together. That journey continues here at The Neighborhood.”

🎻Live cello music at its finest! We enjoyed a wonderful performance by Viva La Celli from the New Mexico Philharmonic, whose cellos filled the room with deep, soulful sounds.

The Neighborhood in Rio Rancho opened as one of the nation’s first Life Plan Retirement Community’s in April 2016. As Life Plan Community, the Neighborhood is designed to offer more than one level of care on a single campus. We offer a range of housing, from seniors who want an increased sense of community and connection. Living at the Neighborhood also means living where extra support is available at the same location – should you ever need it. Supportive Care at The Neighborhood is part of The Neighborhood in Rio Rancho which provides all levels of care on-site so the changing needs residents are met without having to relocate. Residents enjoy peace of mind because they receive lifetime housing, have predictable health care costs, and lifetime financial protection. Our community focuses on active lifestyles and opportunities for seniors to get involved, be a part of their neighborhood, and to give back, both to The Neighborhood and to Rio Rancho as a whole.
