We’ve received a few phone calls about this and wanted to clarify:
This information pertains specifically to our Behavioral Health services with our LICSW, Tyler Smathers.

Thank you for reaching out and staying informed! 💙

Due to a change in federal legislation, a temporary bill allowing Medicare coverage of telehealth medical visits expired on September 30, 2025. This is a government policy change, not specific to our clinic.

🔹 Medicare patients: Please call us at 509-659-1200 to schedule in-person appointments moving forward.
🔹 Washington State Medicaid still covers telehealth medical visits.

For patients seeing Tyler Smathers for behavioral health:
➡️ Call us at 509-659-1200 before December 31, 2025 to schedule an in-person visit. After that, telehealth appointments with Tyler can resume in 2026.

Jeff is a steady, compassionate presence in our clinic and a valued member of the team. He consistently goes above and beyond for our patients and coworkers, showing deep care for the community he serves. Jeff’s dedication and positive attitude shine through, even in challenging times, making a lasting impact on everyone around him. 💙

In his own words:

“Being a Medical Assistant is such a rewarding profession. I'm grateful to be at EARH with such an outstanding team that cares so greatly. The medical field provides such an enriching experience working with our amazing patients and building an ever-increasing medical knowledge base. I feel blessed to have such a supportive and loving family at home, and to be amongst the high caliber of fellow employees at EARH when I'm not at home.”

As we close out Medical Assistants Week, we want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the incredible MAs who keep our clinics running and our patients cared for each day.

First up, we want to recognize Shawna! Shawna is a wonderful asset to our team. She is always ready to lend a helping hand and bring positivity to every interaction. Her compassion and dedication make a real difference for both patients and coworkers alike. 💙

In her own words:

“I have been a Medical Assistant for 7 years; I was also part of EMS for a couple of years.
Outside of work I love to bake, make candles, and spend my time with my Husband for 28 years, grandbabies and daughters. I also love to do hard things like running, having fun on our new electric bikes. I’ve been doing 5 and 10K for several years but this year I moved up to doing half marathons and next year hopefully a marathon. The ultimate goal would be to do an ultra-Marathon. It is important to me to try and lead by example and get out more and explore.”

Thank you, Shawna, for your dedication and the light you bring to our team every day! 🙌

Our next spotlight for Physical Therapy month is Dustin Killian, PTA💪

Dustin is an integral part of our Physical Therapy team at EARH. He always puts the patient first and brings dedication and heart to everything he does. In addition to his work in the clinic, he’s also a key figure in our athletic training partnership with local schools. We're proud to highlight Dustin and the many ways he supports our patients and community. Here's what he had to say in his own words:

"My name is Dustin Killian. I have worked in the therapy department at EARH for a little over 10 years now. I am also heavily involved in the partnership between our hospital and the local school system. Through this agreement I have been able to teach a Sports Medicine class in the high school, which I’ve been doing for a little over a year now. I've also been able to provide athletic training services for high school sports, which I’ve been doing for the last 10 years as well.

I developed a love and fascination with the human body during my own time in athletics and weight training, and this only deepened as I worked on my undergraduate degree at BYU-Idaho. Here I was introduced to the idea of athletic training, and I went on to get my Master’s in Athletic Training from the University of Idaho. Since then I have returned to school to complete my Physical Therapist Assistant degree, so I could become licensed as a PTA and provide additional services for the hospital patients I see regularly.

I love the therapy world, specifically the rewarding feeling of seeing patients improve and return to being able to do the things they love. I still find the human body fascinating and love to work through different problems with patients.

When I’m not at work, I’m chasing my kids around to all their sporting events or other extracurricular activities. My wife and I have been married over 17 years now and we have five kids that keep us very busy. We love it here in Ritzville and count ourselves lucky to be surrounded by such great people."

🌟 PT Month Spotlight: Sarah – Physical Therapist

This October, as we celebrate Physical Therapy Month, we’re continuing to highlight the incredible individuals who make up our therapy team.

Meet Sarah, one of our talented physical therapists and our acting interim Therapy Manager. Sarah is a strong leader with a great attitude, always putting patients first. She’s a tremendous asset to EARH, guiding her team with dedication and heart.

In her own words:

“I was raised in Eastern Washington and grew to love small town living. I graduated from Eastern Washington University with a B.S. in Biology. I then attended Pacific University where I graduated with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. After graduation, I had my fill of big city living, moved back to Eastern Washington, and married my husband. Together we stay busy raising our son, farming, spending time with friends and family, and exploring the outdoors. I am always down for an adventure.

I have been working as a physical therapist for four years. I have grown to love the wide variety of settings that working in a small community provides. Through continuing education I have specialized in pre and postnatal health. I am looking forward to continuing to learn with the goal of bringing more services to EARH. I truly believe that movement is medicine. Come see what we are all about. Looking forward to helping you meet your movement goals.”

Sarah’s passion for patient care, leadership, and community health makes her an invaluable part of our team.
