I wonder if medications targeting the CGRP affective pain pathway could help ease fear, avoidance, and hypervigilance in neurodevelopmental disorders like autism.

What if your brain is the reason some pain feels unbearable? Scientists at the Salk Institute have discovered a hidden brain circuit that gives pain its emotional punch—essentially transforming ordinary discomfort into lasting misery. There's still time to register for our next "Is This Autism?" workshop on February 19th & 20th.

It is critical for professionals working with both children and adults to understand what aspects of a client’s profile are due to autism, other co-occurring conditions, or unrelated diagnoses. In this two-day training, you will learn how to recognize autism in your clients, particularly those who have a less obvious presentation of autism, and what to do next.

This training is relevant for professionals who:

— Work with children, adolescents, or adults,
— Do assessments or therapy,
— Have any amount of training (including no training) in autism.

Mental health content on TikTok can be helpful, empowering and wildly confusing. Between symptom checklists and therapy buzzwords, it’s easy to start seeing diagnoses in every emotion. Excellent overview of the differences and overlaps in different types of psychological evaluations.

When a teacher or doctor recommends an evaluation for a child for learning or behavioral concerns, parents are often left with a host of questions. Where do I go for this evaluation? What does it cost? Who’s going to do it? But the most common question we hear is “Exactly what kind of evaluation...

Is it that their children "won't adult" or "can't adult?"

Parents facing the reality that their children "can't adult" have options; I agree with Eric that these parents need to consult an attorney and a financial advisor who understands how to protect assets so adult children with disabilities can access government services.

Dear Eric: I grew up with highly educated parents, with a strong work ethic. Because of my and my also well-educated and accomplished husband’s many years of hard work, we have been able to provide well for our children. Unfortunately, all of them have had health difficulties from birth, and inste...

Paul Micallef's description of Neurodivergent Love Languages and the ways that autistic people express and receive affection is so helpful.

If your child does the following: Parallel Play, Info Dumping, Penguin Pebbling, Support Swapping, and Deep Pressure... they are telling you they love you!

And you can show your love to them in these ways too (and make sure to check that the one you choose is actually a love language for the person!)

How do autistic people express affection? Today let’s talk about neurodivergent love languages, our version of the five love languages. They may be different...

Does anyone ACTUALLY like open offices? I sure didn't... When I was working in the software development industry, I always felt like I was bothering my coworkers when I had to talk to my clients!

Open offices are supposed to improve collaboration. Instead, collaboration and productivity suffer, and sick days increase. We can find more effective ways to work.
