Let’s admit it: sometimes this is how you feel about exercise before and after surgery. It’s okay to feel this way from time to time, but just know that even just getting up and out of the house to go for a 5 minute walk will make you feel so much better physically AND mentally. 💪🏽🧠

In the first several weeks after surgery, we recommend walking every 1-2 hours for 5-10 minutes to reduce your risk of blood clots. Some days you will be happy to do this; some days you will feel just like this eagle, but remember how you will feel after you do it and let that motivate you to get it done!

Eventually, making habits of small daily tasks like this will become second-nature to you and your mind and body will thank you later. 😏

SUPPORT GROUP: We have changed our day and time for our monthly support group! We will now host our support groups every 3rd Thursday of each month, at 6:30 pm in the bariatric clinic.

Stop by each month to learn something new about the surgery and how to reach your goals, AND meet other people who are on the same path as you. It’s always good to have a buddy that you can share your experience with. 😁

Each support group will have a different topic, and will always have samples and ideas for new foods and drinks to try!

Anyone is welcome to attend:
•Those on the path to surgery
•Those who have had surgery
•Those interested in the surgery
•Any friend or family member

1 YEAR LATER….

We caught up with De’Andre at his Annual post op appointment this week. He is happier than ever and is motivated to keep up the great work! So far he has lost 170 lbs, has reduced his BMI from 62 —> 46, and has been taken off a handful of medications by his primary care doctor.

We can’t wait to see his progress continue in the future! 💪🏽

March 1st is National Peanut Butter Lover's Day! Peanut butter is both a tasty and nutritious addition to your meals or snacks.
Peanut butter can give your food an extra boost of protein to help you meet your daily needs. It's important to get enough protein every day in order to build muscle, lose weight, and have energy. Peanut butter is also high in B vitamins and omega-3, which contribute to overall health. When peanut butter is paired with a fruit, vegetable, or whole grain, you can fuel your body to take on the day.
When buying peanut butter, make sure to look for a natural peanut butter. Traditional peanut butter typically has higher sugar, sodium, and fat contents. Natural peanut butter provides the same amount of protein and nutrients without extra additives. The best natural peanut butters have two ingredients: peanuts and salt. Make sure to give your natural peanut butter a stir and then you're ready to serve.
Need some ideas to add peanut butter to your food? Try adding 2 tablespoons of peanut butter to your smoothie or oatmeal, or pair it with whole grain pretzels, apple slices, or celery. You can even top a slice of whole wheat toast with peanut butter and some sliced bananas.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY:
Stefanee had the gastric bypass surgery on May 6th, 2020 and has been very happy with her success so far. Since her surgery, she has lost 61 lbs, reduced her body fat percentage by nearly 9%, has seen a gradual reduction in her medications, and has been able to enjoy her favorite activities again.
