MHT Family Life Center

MHT Family Life Center Pastoral Counselor & Life Health & Wellness Coach serving individuals, couples, families, & groups

Services Provided:
The Office of Pastoral Counseling provides an integrated holistic counseling approach using theology and psychology. The Office of Pastoral Care is three part:
EmpowerOne provides transitional housing , education and training to transient women. The Offiice of Kendi provides support in the community through its mentorship and group counseling program for at risk youth beginning at the age of 13; and lastly, ClergyCare provides training for pastors, church leadership and others interested in establishing and developing a Pastoral Care ministry within their church or organization. The MHT Family Life Center offers assistance to women, frequently homeless, as they move from dependent, often abusive relationships and women leaving the prison systems into independent, self-sufficient lifestyles. In the future, the organization will provide transitional housing and life skills training for women. The EmpowerOne Program provides transitional housing clients with an eight step program that teaches them. They use a collaborative approach that assists clients in developing self-sufficiency in the clients. The steps include personal development, vocational training, counseling, interpersonal skills building, substance abuse prevention, community involvement and leisure activities, independent living skills, sustaining self- sufficiency. Overall the center is concerned with the community and providing a safe space to receive compassionate care, empathy, empowerment, healing and transformation.

**The Marie Buckner Hansford Thurmond Transitional Housing is our current project that we are working on.**

Evening Reflection: Path to Transformation
"Resilience is not about never falling, but about rising every time we fall. Instead of going to bed worrying reflect on a time when you overcame a challenge. Remember how God was present then and know that God gives you the power to be resilient.

Morning Reflection: Compassion That Rewrites Shame
Corrective emotional experiences heal what shame has broken. Jesus does this repeatedly — touching lepers, restoring outcasts, and speaking life where others spoke rejection. His compassion rewrites the stories we believed about ourselves.

Evening Reflection: Breathe, Reset, & Release
Take a moment to breathe deeply. Time take to let go and center yourself before you lay down to rest. Release every concern to God. This release helps to position you towards your reset. Reset your thoughts, body, and spirit. Remember, every small step counts towards your healing journey.

Monday Motivation: Compassion That Enters Our Story
Theologically, compassion is incarnational. God didn’t love us from a distance — He stepped into our humanity. Psychology calls this attunement; Scripture calls it Immanuel. God with us. God for us. God in us.

Morning Reflection: Compassion That Supports Our Healing
Support is essential for transformation. God’s compassion lifts us when we cannot lift ourselves. He strengthens the weary, carries the burdened, and walks with us through valleys we cannot navigate alone.

Afternoon Reflection: Compassion That Soothes the Soul
Modern psychology affirms the power of soothing presence. Jesus embodies this perfectly — speaking peace to anxious hearts, touching the untouchable, and restoring dignity to those crushed by life. His compassion settles the soul.

Morning Reflection: Faith Over Feelings
Faith isn’t the absence of emotion — it’s choosing God’s truth over emotional distortion. Faith says, “God is with me,” even when feelings say, “I’m overwhelmed.”

Evening Reflection: Compassion That Makes Us Safe
Safety is a core human need. Jesus creates emotional and spiritual safety wherever He goes. His presence calms storms, quiets fear, and reminds us that we are held by a God who protects and surrounds us with love.

Thought of the day: Emotional Regulation & Spiritual Grounding
Psychology teaches emotional regulation; theology teaches spiritual grounding. Together they remind us: peace comes when we feel our emotions but follow God’s voice.

Evening Reflection: You Made It Through Today
Tonight, celebrate quiet victories. You showed up. You endured. You kept going. Psychology calls this resilience; Scripture calls it grace. God is proud of the strength you didn’t even know you had.
