In PACE-Westerly, our rehab team turned fall prevention into a celebration!

During our autumn-themed“No Falls” Festival, participants learned practical tips for staying steady, and had fun testing their balance through obstacle courses, bean bag tosses, and other exciting games.

Last week, our staff came together at Roger Williams Park Zoo & Carousel Village to mark 20 incredible years of PACE-RI. From a close-up encounter with an armadillo to a zoo-wide scavenger hunt, it was an afternoon of laughter, connection, and celebration.

Our older adults heard about Litza’s recent 5th birthday celebration and her dog show victories, then enjoyed playing tic-tac-toe and cuddling with her.

As a reminder, all PACE-RI centers are closed today in recognition of Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day. We'll welcome our participants back into our centers on Tuesday, October 14.

What a treat it was for our Woonsocket elders to take a boat trip down the Blackstone River this week! We spotted some local wildlife (deers, ducks, and cormorants), saw some Halloween decorations on the riverside, and learned about the history of the Blackstone River Valley.

We were recently featured in an article by Providence Business News about how poor air quality affects Rhode Islanders.

In the article, CEO Joan Kwiatkowski shared that PACE-RI sees twice as many cancellations to our day centers when there is an air quality alert. This makes coordinating care more difficult.

Poor air quality can have a range of health effects on vulnerable populations like older adults, children, or those with asthma.

We were thankful to reporter Jacquelyn Vogehel for the chance to lend our perspective on a health issue that affects many Rhode Islanders.

This fall, staff members and loved ones represented PACE-RI at Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in Westerly, Newport, and North Scituate.

More than a third of PACE participants have a dementia diagnosis, which means that our staff sees the effects of Alzheimer's up close every day. It's our responsibility to play a part in raising awareness for research efforts to treat, prevent, and—one day—cure the disease.
