Since 2011, World Doula Day has been observed annually on March 22nd to mark the spring equinox, which symbolizes the return of fertility in many different cultures worldwide. It is also the start of the Doula Week initiated in Israel by Ruti Karni Horowitz.

Everyone deserves to have a doula. Doulas increase new parents’ confidence in the care of their newborn, reduce epidural and analgesic requests, and can reduce the incidence of postpartum mood disorders.

To all the amazing doulas out there, thank you!

It’s World Down Syndrome Day! Observed each year on March 21 to bring awareness of this genetic condition and the uniqueness of having 21 chromosomes. This condition is often met with an apology when it should be met with as much celebration as any other baby born. How do you celebrate this day?

My face when someone asks if I’ve ever read and followed the directions on the diaper box. I’ll admit… I have not! I have washed plenty of cloth diapers and panties in my toilet but disposable diapers was a new one for me and I’ve help change a lot of tiny bums over the years. Not sure I’ll try that way but always room to learn something new.

Pro; no more trying to remember the elf until next year. May your coffee be strong, may your patience be stronger, and may today be merry and filled with love and light. From our home to yours, Merry Christmas

The holidays can be a really difficult time to navigate especially when you are navigating during your postpartum period. Social media often set’s unrealistic expectations for what this time should look like. I’m here to assure it is okay to not look like that family. To not have matching pajamas, to not put out decorations, to not host family. It’s okay to set reasonable expectations and boundaries for yourself, and okay to not let anyone or thing take your peace.

With the winter weather upon us, it can be tempting to move baby’s cot closer to a radiator to keep them warm while they sleep. However, there are three major risks to consider before doing so:
1) For older tots, there’s a risk of getting ahold of the blind cords since radiators typically sit near or under windows.
2) Risk of burns
3) Risk of overheating which can raise the risk of SIDS

Babies have a hard time regulating their temperature and can overheat more easily than we think.

What to do instead? Stick with layering your baby’s clothes based on how cool it is and go by the temperature, not by how warm or cool you’re feeling. This helps keep baby both comfortable and safe while they sleep.

It’s hard to overstate how much benefit it gives your baby. Breast milk is packed with white blood cells that protect your baby from illness and disease, containing one to five million white blood cells per milliliter — way more than your blood! And colostrum, the first milk your body produces, is full of antibodies that help jump-start your baby’s immune system.
