At ECU Health North Hospital, compassion comes in many forms—sometimes, it’s a bear hug.

We’re honored to receive a special donation of Magnus Bears, created in loving memory of Magnus Grey Flythe. These cuddly companions are more than just stuffed animals—they’re symbols of courage, comfort and connection for children facing medical challenges.

Each bear carries Magnus’ legacy of love and resilience, offering a soft reminder that no child walks their journey alone. Thank you to the Flythe family for turning their love into a gift that will comfort so many in our care.

The Magnus Bears project was born from love, loss, and the unwavering spirit of giving. It honors the life of Magnus Grey, a child whose memory continues to inspire acts of kindness and healing. Each year, Magnus' family and supporters come together to give back in meaningful ways, and this year, they introduced Magnus Bears, soft, comforting companions for children in hospitals.

This initiative is especially close to our hearts because Meghan Flythe, Magnus’ mom, is a registered nurse at ECU Health North Hospital. Her compassion and dedication to caring for others shine through in every bear, making this a deeply personal act of love and service. These bears are more than just plush toys, they’re symbols of courage, comfort and connection for children facing medical challenges.

Whether a child is undergoing a procedure or simply having a tough day, "Magnus' Bear" offers a hug and a reminder that they’re not alone. We’re proud to have donated these bears to ECU Health North Hospital, where they’ll bring hope and healing to children who need it most.

Please join us in congratulating Mr. Hubert Allen, who recently completed 60 hyperbaric oxygen treatments at the ECU Health Wound Healing Center – Roanoke Rapids!

Allen was facing serious challenges from a radiation injury—wheelchair-bound, in and out of the hospital, disoriented, and unable to drive. But with the expert care of Dr. Jamie Udwadia, nurse practitioner Ashley Duke, and manager of Patient Care Service, Jennifer Millius, and the dedicated team, his transformation has been nothing short of inspiring.

Today, Allen is walking, driving, and feeling like himself again. He credits the team, saying, "they were extremely compassionate and supportive during my treatments."
