Oakey’s is a family-run, locally-owned funeral home with locations throughout the Roanoke Valley. We provide funeral, burial and cremation services.

Advance Funeral Planning: Free consultations to help families establish a file at the funeral home with vital statistics, biographical and survivor information; service and merchandise selections. We also have a prepayment plan, which allows you to take care of the financial portion in advance and have the cost for services and merchandise quaranteed at today's prices. Post-Service Follow Up Care: We have a staff member dedicated to assisting families after the funeral service. She provides helpful information for handling business affairs after a death occurs. This service is provided at no cost to the family. Group Presentations: Discussions with groups in our area concerning funeral services, care-giving and grief. Some are with nationally known speakers and many are provided at no cost . Our facilities are also available for group tours.

Ragnar has always held a special place in so many hearts, which is why we feel it’s important to share an update about his health. For those who may not follow him on Instagram or aren’t aware of the challenges he has faced since retiring, we’ve included a link below to a wonderful article written last month by Kevin Myatt in Virginia Tech News.

Ragnar means so much to so many of you, and we wanted to be sure you knew what he has been going through. Please continue to keep our sweet boy in your thoughts and prayers, along with Sam, Allison, Mitzi, Sammy, and Kenny.

When asked about Ragnar today, happily, Sam’s response was: “I’m glad to say he’s doing well right now and aside from the limitations that his torn ACL has placed on him, he’s living a normal life. He can’t hike and has to limit use of stairs, but besides that, he’s doing great and enjoying life. We’re so thankful for this time with him and pray it continues as long as possible.”

This morning, we had the honor of awarding the December 2025 Hospice Caregiver award to Callie Hale of Good Samaritan Hospice. Congratulations, Callie! We are so happy for you and in awe of you and all hospice caregivers for the work you do.

Our own Jeff Wright, Manager of North Chapel, is a proud member of the Buena Vista Rotary Club. Every year for nearly 50 years, they have provided a Christmas Luncheon for local disabled groups at the Senior Center.

Cremation Tribute Center Manager, Scott Arbogast (left) and Oakey's South Chapel Manager, Lee Weaver (right), presented a check for $3,000 to Stefanie Fowler this morning. Stefanie is a receptionist at our South Chapel, but she also started the local chapter of PORCH Roanoke, VA. Oakey's raised these funds through our recycling program at the Cremation Tribute Center.

PORCH Roanoke is an all-volunteer hunger relief organization that connects neighbors to fight local hunger. Through neighborhood food drives, they collect food and cash donations to help keep pantry shelves stocked year-round — providing consistent support for individuals and families facing food insecurity in our community.
