This week, we recognize the true first first-responders—our telecommunicators.

During National Telecommunicators Week, Carilion Clinic Life-Guard honors the voices behind the scenes who bring calm to chaos, guide critical moments, and ensure help is always on the way. Though often unseen, their impact is felt in every life touched and every mission launched.

At Life-Guard, we’re always looking for small ways to support our crews during long shifts.

Sometimes it’s the big things… and sometimes it’s just making sure everyone gets a hot meal when they can.

We’ve heard the feedback, and let’s just say the crews in the back have been getting a little creative lately. Fresh pizza at altitude might not be standard issue… but morale seems to be trending in the right direction.

We’re proud of the work our teams do every day—and grateful for the way they take care of each other, no matter what the shift brings.

Happy April Fools’ Day from Life-Guard!

Trailblazer. Pioneering force. Mentor. Leader.

These are just a few of the words people have used to describe Judy Cauley.

Judy was part of the very first cohort of Life-Guard 10 paramedics flying in the Bell 206 in 1981, and later in the Bell 222 when nurses joined the pilot‑paramedic model in 1984.

She helped define what critical care transport would become, and her influence continues to echo through every generation that followed.

While we are deeply saddened by her passing, we honor her legacy by celebrating a life marked by courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others.

Rest in peace, Judy.
We’ll take it from here.
