In 2011, we honored the legacy of President & CEO, John Pendarvis after an astounding 22 years of leadership and welcomed Sharon Jarrett Thacker to that role.

That same year, our Teen Outreach Program®(TOP®), became a nationally recognized Wyman Center replication site.

In 1984, the Family Service Fund was created to build a lasting endowment—along with a new name: Family Service of Roanoke Valley. In 1985, we launched Domestic Violence Treatment services and began offering Employee Assistance Programs to local employers. Continued growth led to a new 4,500 square foot office on Hershberger Road, where the team moved to in December 1987!

We were Roanoke's first social work agency and opened our office on Kirk Avenue. The organization provided vital financial assistance to local families and later joined Roanoke's first Community Fund Drive (now known as the United Way Virginia's Blue Ridge), in 1924.

Our Strategy and Sustainability Manager, Rhianna, and Chief Development Officer, Jill, were so honored to be invited to the Junior League of Roanoke Valley’s Collaborative Lunch today for nonprofits, held at the Community Empowerment Center at Booker T. Washington.

The JLRV has been invaluable to FSRV over the years; from helping us to amend our Charter and making a name change in 1938 to participating in our annual dinner each fall, to helping with so many special projects! We are forever grateful!
