Community isn’t built by watching from the sidelines—it’s built when people show up for one another.

Every day, neighbors across our region need a helping hand, a listening ear, or a small act of kindness that makes a big difference. CareForward exists to make it easier to step in, connect, and take action when it matters most.

If you’ve ever wondered how you can make an impact right where you live, this is your invitation to show up -> www.careforward.io

We’re incredibly grateful to Ebenezer Lutheran Church for partnering with CareForward and providing space where we can store gently used household goods, wheelchairs, medical supplies, and other donated items.

This partnership helps us respond more quickly and effectively to requests from neighbors in need—turning generosity into real, practical support. Thank you for being part of a community that shows up and makes a difference.

Piedmont Community Services is working with an older woman in our community who is currently living without electricity or running water in her home. As winter continues, this has made everyday life extremely difficult. She is spending much of her time in the dark, struggling to stay warm, and unable to prepare warm meals or access clean water.

Living this way day after day takes a heavy toll. Sitting in the cold, eating cold food, and trying to get through long evenings without light makes it hard to stay positive or hopeful. The ongoing stress of this situation is beginning to weigh heavily on her, impacting her current health condition and increasing the risk that she may need emergency care if things continue without relief.

All available local assistance has been exhausted. A borrowed generator and limited fuel provided one night of light and warmth, but that relief was temporary. She also has pets she cares for and does not have another option for their care if her situation worsens or if she needs to leave her home for emergency services. Helping her stay safe and supported at home is important for her well-being and for preventing further crisis.

We are asking for help with a Power Pack: a collection of simple, practical items that can bring light, warmth and peace of mind during this difficult time. Any help with one or more of these items would make a real difference. Your kindness and generosity can provide comfort, dignity, and hope to a neighbor who truly needs it.

A simple appliance can make a life-changing difference.

Thanks to incredible community collaboration, a gently used stove was donated by a CareForward volunteer in Franklin County and then delivered and installed by members of Rocky Mount United Method Church. Care in action for a local resident who had been struggling to safely prepare meals at home. With her previous stove no longer functional, cooking had become difficult and unsafe - putting both her independence and well-being at risk, especially during the holiday season.

Because neighbors showed up with generosity, time, and care, she can once again cook meals safely in her own home and maintain the independence that matters so much. This is exactly what CareForward is about: connecting real needs with people willing to help in practical, meaningful ways.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who stepped in to make this happen. This is community at its best.

Piedmont Community Services is working with a 56-year-old individual who lives independently and is at risk of losing the ability to safely prepare meals in her home. Cooking is an important daily activity for her and supports both her independence and overall well-being.

Currently, her oven is non-functional, and only one burner on her stovetop is working, significantly limiting her ability to cook meals safely and consistently. Without community support, she may experience limited access to nutritious food and increased reliance on outside services.

We are requesting the following one-time assistance:

A gently used stove or stovetop

Transportation and installation of the appliance

Removal and responsible disposal of the non-working unit

Given the upcoming holiday season, we are requesting that this need be addressed as soon as possible, ideally before Christmas. Meeting this request will help ensure the individual can continue to prepare meals in her home, reducing the risk of nutritional decline and helping her remain safe and independent. Any support toward this request would be greatly appreciated and will have an immediate, meaningful impact - especially during this holiday season.

Winter weather is on the way, and a little preparation can make a big difference—especially for our older neighbors. As temperatures drop, simple safety steps like dressing in warm layers, using space heaters carefully, and keeping walkways clear can help prevent cold-weather injuries.

Now is also a great time to check carbon monoxide detectors and make sure loved ones are staying hydrated and eating well to support their immune systems.

Let’s look out for one another this season. A small act of care can go a long way in keeping our community safe and warm.
