Community isn’t built by watching from the sidelines.

It’s built when people choose to show up—when neighbors lend a hand, when volunteers step in, and when organizations work together to meet real needs in real time.

CareForward exists to make showing up easier by connecting people with meaningful opportunities to support their local community.

A local elderly couple is working hard to maintain a clean, safe, and dignified living environment while managing significant physical limitations. Age-related health challenges have made daily tasks increasingly difficult, and fixed monthly income constraints mean that essential needs now routinely exceed available resources.

Despite their best efforts, the cumulative impact of mobility limitations and financial strain has made it challenging to keep up with household care and personal necessities. This request is intended to provide short-term, practical support that helps stabilize their living situation, reduces daily stress, and allows them to remain safely in their home with greater comfort and peace of mind.

At this stage, incontinence management and basic household upkeep are critical to maintaining health and dignity. Without additional support, the couple risks further decline in their living conditions, increased physical strain, and heightened stress related to managing everyday needs. These supports are designed to ease immediate burdens while preserving independence and stability. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Requested Support & Items

Personal Care & Incontinence Supplies
Depends (sizes S/M and XL), preferably with Night Assure for reliable overnight protection

Bed pads suitable for a full-size bed

A waterproof mattress cover

One set of full-size sheets to support cleanliness and comfort

Household Essentials & Maintenance Supplies

Basic cleaning supplies, including a broom, mop, and general cleaning products
A high-reach cleaning tool to assist with cobwebs and hard-to-reach areas

Loneliness is becoming more common—and more costly—than many people realize.

Since 2019, the number of adults in the U.S. who report feeling lonely at least sometimes has risen to 25%. That’s not just a statistic; it represents neighbors, parents, caregivers, and seniors who are feeling disconnected and unseen.

CareForward exists to change that by connecting people with practical support, meaningful relationships, and opportunities to show up for one another at the community level.

If you’re looking for a way to be part of the solution, join us at app.careforward.io/sign-up.

Piedmont Community Services is working with a 31-year-old female who is currently living in an outdoor building on a family member’s property. She has access to water inside the main home and has done her best to turn a very small, basic space into something that feels safe and livable. With very little, she is still trying to build something steady.

She is actively working on her recovery and making real progress. However, living without basic household items creates daily stress that can quickly become overwhelming. When someone is working hard to stay on track, even small barriers like not being able to cook properly, stay organized, or maintain hygiene can increase the risk of setbacks, crisis situations, or needing emergency or a higher level of care.

Providing a few essential items would ease that daily pressure, support her health and stability, and help protect the progress she has made. Any assistance would help strengthen the foundation she is working so hard to build. Even simple, practical items can make a real difference in helping someone keep moving forward.

Items Requested:

Standing clothes rack

Two sets of queen-size bed sheets

Two small folding tables

Small TV table

Pots and pans

Single-burner stove with propane

Utensils

Cleaning supplies

Broom/Dust Pan

Hygiene items (hand sanitizer, body wipes)

Nonperishable food that requires minimal cooking

CareForward continues to support a local mother and stay-at-home parent who has been diagnosed with terminal breast cancer that has metastasized to her bones and spine. She is currently undergoing frequent chemotherapy treatments, which have significantly impacted her strength, stamina, and ability to manage daily household responsibilities. A local family of five is navigating an urgent and deeply challenging health crisis. The mother, a stay-at-home parent, has been diagnosed with terminal breast cancer that has metastasized to her bones and spine. She is currently undergoing frequent chemotherapy treatments, which have significantly impacted her strength, stamina, and ability to manage daily household responsibilities.

The father is the sole source of income for the family and is balancing full-time work while also coordinating medical appointments, transportation, childcare, and household needs. As treatment has intensified, the family is experiencing growing physical, emotional, and financial strain.

This request is intended to provide short-term, practical support that helps stabilize the household during treatment, reduces daily stressors, and allows the family to focus on medical care and meaningful time together.

At this stage in treatment, regular transportation to chemotherapy is critical, and fatigue from treatment makes meal preparation, housekeeping, and routine tasks increasingly difficult. Without additional support, the cumulative strain on the family could negatively impact health outcomes, household stability, and the well-being of the children. These supports are designed to ease the immediate burden while preserving dignity and stability during an intensive period of care.

Requested Support & Items

Food & Nutrition Support
- Grocery items (prepackaged foods, snacks, easy-to-prepare meals) or financial support towards the purchase of grocery store gift cards to reduce cooking demands during treatment days.

Transportation Assistance
- Gas cards to support the caregiver/driver's frequent travel to chemotherapy and medical appointments. Transportation is currently provided by a family member, and gas cards would help reduce the financial burden of repeated medical travel.

Household Essentials
- Basic supplies such as cleaning products, paper goods, trash bags, and disposable cups or utensils to simplify daily routines.

Light Housekeeping Support (Volunteer Action)
- Assistance with tasks like dishes, laundry, light cleaning, or general tidying to help maintain a safe and manageable home environment.

Childcare Essentials
- Size 4 pull-ups for the youngest child.

Comfort & Emotional Support
- Comfort items such as a soft blanket, devotional or inspirational reading, simple crafts or coloring supplies, a photo album, or a heating pad.

Emotional Support (Volunteer Action)
- Brief phone, virtual and/or in-person check-ins to offer encouragement and connection during treatment weeks.

Any assistance will reduce immediate stress, prevent further crisis, and support the family through an especially demanding chapter. Thank you for considering how you might help. Your support can make a meaningful difference for this family when it matters most.

Before this request ever needed to be shared on social media, volunteers and partners from Rocky Mount UMC stepped in and made it happen.

Piedmont Community Services was supporting a 51-year-old man in Patrick County who lives alone with very limited resources. When his refrigerator stopped working nearly two months ago, he had no choice but to rely on a small cooler kept outside during the winter months to store food. While the cold weather made this a temporary solution, it raised growing concerns about food safety, nutrition, and his overall health as temperatures begin to rise.

Without safe food storage, he was limiting groceries, preparing very small meals, and eating the same foods repeatedly—putting him at risk for food-related illness, worsening health, and potentially avoidable emergency or inpatient care. With no local resources available to replace a refrigerator, this was a critical need.

Thanks to the incredible responsiveness of volunteers, a refrigerator was secured and delivered—restoring his ability to safely store food, prepare regular meals, and remain stable in his home.

This is exactly why CareForward exists. When community members come together quickly, we can prevent crises before they happen and help neighbors stay safe, healthy, and independent.

An family in our community was facing winter without electricity or running water. Long days in the cold and dark made it difficult to stay warm, prepare meals, access clean water, and care for her pets. All local options had been exhausted, and the risk of crisis was growing ahead of the winter storm.

Through the generosity of our community, items were delivered that brought light, warmth, food, water, hygiene supplies, and pet care when it mattered most. These simple, practical items provided more than supplies - they brought comfort, dignity, and peace of mind during a difficult time.

This is what community looks like: showing up when it matters.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. 💙
