Did you know loneliness isn’t just about being alone? You can be surrounded by people and still feel unseen or disconnected. That’s because loneliness isn’t about proximity. It’s about connection.

At CareForward, we focus on bridging the gap between need and support — creating real opportunities for neighbors to show up for one another.

Connection changes outcomes. And it starts with one small step.

A resident of Grayson County, a 62-year-old disabled male, is in need of a toaster oven to prepare meals at home, as he does not have access to a stove. This essential appliance will enable him to maintain his independence and nutrition.

We invite community members to consider donating a gently used or new toaster oven to assist in meeting this accessible kitchen need. Your support can make a tangible difference in his daily life. Thank you for considering this opportunity to help a neighbor in need.

You may just see a refrigerator. We see stability restored.

A working fridge means groceries don’t spoil. It means fewer skipped meals. It means a household has one less barrier standing in the way of staying safe and steady at home.

Because of the generosity of Paige Barrett and The Park Oak Grove in Roanoke, two refrigerators and two stoves were donated to help meet verified needs in our community. That’s not just appliances - that’s practical support that changes daily life.

This is what showing up looks like. Neighbors helping neighbors!

Piedmont Community Services is working with a 49-year-old man who has experienced significant challenges maintaining his home and daily living needs. For several years, he served as the primary caregiver for his mother during her illness until she passed away. During that time, his own health declined, making it difficult for him to work or keep up with household responsibilities.

As a result, several basic household needs have gone unmet. At this time, he does not have a working refrigerator, his washing machine is no longer functioning, and his kitchen sink faucet needs replacement. He also has approximately 25 bags of trash he is physically unable to carry out on his own and would benefit from help addressing a pest issue within the home.

These conditions have made daily life increasingly overwhelming. Without help addressing these needs, his living conditions may continue to decline, increasing the risk of worsening health, the need for emergency medical care, or even the loss of stable housing.

Your support in meeting these needs would make a meaningful difference in restoring safety, stability, and a sense of normalcy within his home. Assistance with the following items would be especially helpful:

Kitchen faucet

Haul away of 25 bags of household trash

Mouse Traps (4-5)

Volunteer assistance with delivery

ALREADY MET! - Refrigerator (new or gently used)

ALREADY MET! - Washing machine (new or gently used)

Any assistance with these needs would be greatly appreciated and would help restore dignity and stability for someone working to rebuild his home and daily life after a very difficult period.

Connection starts with a simple moment. A handshake. A conversation. A neighbor choosing to show up.

At CareForward, we believe community is built in these everyday interactions. When neighbors step in to meet real, verified needs, isolation decreases and stability grows.

Strangers become neighbors. And showing up changes what’s possible.

Piedmont Community Services is working with a 56-year-old woman who is working hard to maintain her independence with community-based support. Her refrigerator is no longer functioning, making it difficult to safely store food and prepare meals at home.

Being able to cook and care for herself is an important part of her stability and dignity. Without a working refrigerator, she is at greater risk for poor nutrition, worsening health concerns, and possible emergency room utilization or higher levels of care. Addressing this need now will help protect her independence and prevent avoidable decline.

We are seeking one-time assistance with a gently used refrigerator, including transportation, installation, and removal of the non-working unit.

Your support would provide immediate relief and help ensure she can continue living safely and independently in her own home.

When neighbors show up, stability follows. A local family recently needed practical household essentials — Everyday items that make it possible to stay safe and stable at home.

Highlands Fellowship (Marion campus), Green Spring Presbyterian Church, Abingdon, Virginia, and four dedicated volunteers — including one who drove from Richmond — stepped up to meet the need. Because of their response, a gap was closed before it became a crisis.

This is what community looks like. Strangers becoming neighbors. Showing up when it matters.

Faith communities play a powerful role in strengthening the places we call home.

Through partnerships with churches and faith-based organizations, CareForward helps turn compassion into action—connecting congregations with real, local needs. From inviting members to volunteer, to sharing requests, hosting donation drives, or offering short-term storage for essential items, there are so many meaningful ways faith communities can get involved.

When faith, service, and community come together, lives are changed. If your congregation is looking for simple, flexible ways to serve neighbors in need, we’d love to partner with you.

Piedmont Community Services is working with a 42-year-old single father who is raising two sons with significant special needs. Due to the level of care and supervision they require, he serves as their full-time caregiver and is currently unable to work outside the home.

His vehicle recently broke down and requires repair to the wheel bearing and hub assembly. Reliable transportation is essential for this family. One of his sons is unable to ride the school bus, making daily school attendance dependent on a working vehicle. Without transportation, the family faces disruption in school attendance, limited access to appointments and services, and increased stress within the home — all of which could place the family at risk for further hardship or crisis involvement.

The total cost of the repair is $338.91 ($97.62 for parts and $220.00 for labor plus tax). He has the resources to pay for half of the total cost himself but needs assistance covering the remaining balance to safely get the vehicle back on the road. For purposes of this request, we are entering the full repair amount so contributions can be applied toward completing the repair.

In addition, the family’s television recently stopped working. A gently used television would help the father maintain daily routines, provide structure, and create calm transitions within the home, which are especially important given the level of care his children require.

We are requesting assistance with completing the vehicle repair and securing a gently used television to help this family maintain stability and routine. Any support toward this request would make a meaningful difference as this father works tirelessly to care for his sons and keep their household steady.
