Beginning in the 1980s thru the early 1990s we operated a conventional row crop and confinement hog operation producing pork for IBP and later Tyson Foods. As a result of a family health matter, we became aware of the problems that plague our conventional food system and how it is affecting the wellbeing of consumers. Through our personal life experiences we have come to the belief that how we manage our soil, plants and animals will directly affect the physical and mental health of those who consume the products of our farming choices. In the late 1990s we embarked on a journey to transition our farm to a sustainable multi-species pasture based farming and direct marketing operation. After years of much effort, learning and dedication, our vision was eventually realized as a successful farm-to-consumer food business that thousands of dedicated patrons know as Seven Sons Family Farms. The vocation of bringing food to your table is not just a business to us, but also a personal ministry and responsibility that we take very seriously! Because of the overwhelming support we are now grateful to partner with a small fellowship of carefully selected farmers and artisans that are committed to producing livestock according our specific standards. We invest time to visit and develop trusting relationships with our partnering farms in order to ensure the quality and integrity of our products. It is also our desire to provide any needed mentorship and support to our farms as we seek to build a likeminded community of producers that share a common goal of enriching their lands through sustainable farming practices that result in wholesome nutrient-dense foods. Hi friends 👋 Brandt here (7th son!) — I’ve officially been handed the keys to the Instagram account this week.
I wanted to personally update you on something YOU asked for…
We’ve upgraded our shipping packaging!
If you live west of Texas or in Florida, your orders used to arrive in a styrofoam cooler (which worked great 99% of the time). But many of you told us it was bulky, hard to dispose of, and sometimes arrived cracked from rough carrier handling.
We heard you.
Moving forward, your orders will arrive in plant-based, compostable packaging 🌱
You can compost it — or even dissolve it right down your kitchen sink. Easy cleanup. No bulky waste.
Keep the feedback coming. Seriously — we want to make our process better and shaped by customer feedback!
Drop a comment or send a DM if you have questions or requests!

As Christmas approaches, one idea keeps coming to mind: eating together builds belonging.
Over the next few days, roughly 20,000 families across the country will sit down to a Christmas meal or breakfast, nourished by regenerative foods from our fellowship of family farms.
When I imagine this, I see a map of the United States lit up with thousands of tables — different kitchens, different traditions — all connected by a shared belief:
Life begins in the soil. When we care for the land, the land cares for us.
That’s one reason regenerative farming resonates so deeply with me. It honors the intricate design of our Creator and reminds us that healing often starts in quiet humble places.
No matter how divided the world becomes, our community remains united by a simple hope — that good food, healthy soils, and local stewardship can quietly restore resilience, abundance, and connection from the ground up.
And long after public policy and big food systems take credit for discovering regenerative agriculture, I’ll remember this community — the early adopters — who were quietly sowing the real change one meal at a time.
If you’re able, I invite you to leave a holiday greeting for your fellow regenerative food supporters here on the post.
Feel free to share where you’re celebrating from, and help families across the country feel part of something special.
From my family to yours — Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
May your table be filled with nourishing food and a deep sense of belonging
Your farmers,
The Hitzfield family

We had an OUT OF THIS WORLD Feastivity lunch last week. Many team members contributed and planned for more than a month to a Star Wars-themed party.
Lunch was spaghetti, salad, and garlic toast with Spencer and Aysha making the sauce from scratch from organic peeled tomatoes and fresh herbs.
The Baby Yoda drinks in the pictures was lemonade that we added organic food coloring to.
Vanessa (who was the creative force for many aspects of the event) made the Millenium Falcon ship using cardboard, odds and ends from her garage, and egg cartons returned by customers!!
(She even had tea lights that plopped in some holes she made that made it light up and look like a working ship--it was incredible.)
Hayley (who some of you have likely connected with on the phone or in response to emails) made the Baby Yoda cups and sugar cookies to look like Chewbaka--Wookie Cookies!
Blaine's wife, Charis, also made chocolate-covered “light saber” pretzel rods in red, blue and green.
We finished off lunch with a Star Wars trivia with prizes to the top 3 places.
We work hard to prioritize our team culture so that we can keep pursuing our BIG vision with amazing people that we work hard and have fun with.

Nothing says "hoosier" quite like farmers playing basketball in rural Indiana. Founded by our brilliant director of supply chain, Chant, he and the staff have been battling for the Lord of the Rim (yes, that is a pun about Lord of the Rings -- it had to be).
Last night, the gang got together for our fifth week of ball.
It was gritty. It was physical. It was sweaty. It was so much fun.
Here are a few action shots from yesterday.
As Chant would say, in the Lord of the Rim league, every possession is precious. 👑 🏀
Without giving away any spoilers, who do you think has been our best baller?
