When placing a dental implant, one of the most important factors for long-term success is ensuring the implant is in the ideal location. We want to make sure it is centered under the future crown so that, as the patient chews, the implant can properly absorb these forces.

You could look at the other teeth in the mouth as landmarks. But what happens if the other teeth are tipped or rotated? If we use malpositioned teeth as a guide, we will end up not placing the implant in the right spot. This would lead to future complications.

This is why I like to use a combination of intraoral 3D scan to get a model of the tissues and outer portion of the teeth combined with a CBCT, which is a special type of X-ray that will show me where the best quality bone is, and ot help avoid and import nerves or blood vessels. By combining all this information, I can plan a surgery on the computer to achieve a very precise outcome.

I only like surprises on my birthday. I want my surgeries to be predictive and even boring. That is why I exclusively place implants with guided techniques. So I can make sure my implants are in the right depth, angle, and location. To minimize complications for my patient and maximize the longevity of their implants.
