Today is International Pronouns Day! Every year on the third Wednesday in October, we mark International Pronouns Day. According to the official website, this day “seeks to make respecting, sharing and educating about personal pronouns commonplace,” with the goal of “transform[ing] society to celebrate people’s multiple, intersecting identities.” Knowing people’s pronouns helps us to refer to them correctly and respectfully. While many people use he/him or she/her pronouns, others may use they/them, ze/zir, other pronouns, or combinations of these pronouns. We are here to provide people the confidence to both be themselves and ensure we are being respectful and accurate when speaking about others.

October is LGBTQ History Month! An annual month-long observance that provides role models, builds community, and represents a civil rights statement about the invaluable contributions of the LGBTQ community. Founded in 1994 by Rodney Wilson, a gay history teacher from rural Missouri, LGBTQ History Month was declared a national history month by President Barack Obama in 2009. This celebration coincides with National Coming Out Day (October 11) and commemorates the first and second marches on Washington for LGBTQ rights in 1979 and 1987.
