Last one for the night…. Grief and a Well-Made Bed followed, as you might expect, Rosary Beads. Managing grief is no easy task and finding ways to be gentle with yourself while still beginning to wade through it is no small thing. Sometimes you just have to start…..

The second blog post that resides close to my heart is Rosary Beads. Sometimes life is terribly hard and tragedies happen. How do we navigate those times? How do we teach our children to journey through them? It’s part of life and yet, life is still precious.

Life and Candy Land…. In this old blog post, my Kate was only 7 years old but she was still able to teach us all something about winning and losing. Because, sometimes, we don’t so much fear that we will lose, what we are afraid of is winning. And then being seen. Being noticed. Having the responsibility that comes with “winning.” That is why healing our stuff - our gunk - is so important. It’s amazing what you can learn during a game of Candy Land…

This is probably the blog post that is nearest and dearest to my heart because it tells the story of my dad’s transition to Heaven. I was honored to witness it and I love him and feel him with me to this day. How much does your soul weigh?

I am consolidating both my writing and my videos into one place, so tonight I am going to be adding a few of my favorite old blog posts from my “Love That LACTION” blog. Laction was a term we coined in the early days of Genesis to mean the result you get when you combine “your language plus your action.”

This is the inaugural blog entry called, “God is Great, yeah yeah yeah, God is Good…”. Enjoy!

We need more dialog and less debate. Tammy Duckworth said she didn’t understand why Tucker Carlson slammed her for being open to a national dialog but he felt fine about saying he was open to a debate about the same topic.

It’s because a dialog requires that you listen. And a debate is a fight where the only goal is to win. The only reason you listen in a debate is to be able to pick apart your opponent’s position. Note the terminology. Your opponent. It’s adversarial by design.

But a dialog is different. A dialog takes place between two people with a goal of understanding the other better by the end. This is a very different thing. It not only requires listening but also an ability to articulate your position in a way that *the other person* can grasp it! The goal is to create understanding!

There is no name calling, no flinging of insults in a dialog. Those are the things that stop a dialog. There is no “because that’s the way it is” in a dialog. If you can’t articulate the Why of your position, than that is part of the problem and it encourages you to go and truly think about the root of your beliefs - to think about and discover the Why. Which sometimes means you discover that you believed something for reasons other than what you thought superficially. And information like that is always illuminating and always good information to have.

We need far more dialog in this world and far less debate. We are a nation of diverse peoples. Intentionally built that way. And even if we hadn’t been intentionally built that way, it is certainly what we are today. It can either be our strength or our downfall. Dialog will make it our strength. Debate-only will make it our downfall.

We are stronger together than we apart.

We are the UNITED States of America.
