Have you ever noticed that when you gather to honor someone, you share a mix of favorite and new stories?

Maybe your cousin shares how your aunt always seemed to have a sandwich in her purse for you no matter where she was, or someone mentions those handwritten birthday cards with little drawings inside.

Soon you're smiling through your sadness, surrounded by people who each carry pieces of her story. Together you realize this gathering is exactly what everyone needed. This is why funerals matter.

What's a memory from a funeral that surprised you with how much comfort it brought?

💕 Valentine's Day gets a lot of attention for the romantic stuff, but love shows up in all kinds of ways. Maybe it's the friend who checks on you every week, or the neighbor who shoveled your driveway last month without being asked.

💕 Today is a good day to notice the people who keep choosing you. We hope your Valentine's Day is full of love worth celebrating. And if today is a hard one for you, we're thinking of you too.

Last night, The Greater Robinson Chamber of Commerce hosted its Semi-Annual Members Dinner! Our very own, Abigail Boney (pictured in the white dress) serves on the chamber board and represented both Waco Memorial and Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Homes. We're grateful for her leadership and the way she consistently shows up for Robinson and the greater Waco area.

Have you considered who you'll trust to know your funeral choices?

Your family will face some big decisions when they're planning your celebration of life. Should they choose burial or cremation? What kind of service would you want? Would you prefer your favorite hymn or that song you always sang along to in the car?

They might second-guess every choice if they don't know your preferences. But when you've shared these thoughts with someone you trust, they can guide the family with confidence and know they're honoring exactly what mattered to you.

(And while you're having that conversation, ask those you love what they'd want, too.)

Who in your life will you trust to carry your voice forward?

"What is a cremation casket?"
A cremation casket is designed to be cremated along with your loved one. These caskets use wood or other combustible materials without heavy metal parts that can't be cremated.
Cremation caskets range from simple containers to more elaborate options, depending on what feels right for your family and whether you're planning a viewing. If you're having a viewing, we can walk you through what's available and help you decide what makes sense for your family.

Bernadine Ruth Watson

Bernadine Ruth Watson of Waco, Texas passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, just 23 days short of her 98th birthday. She was born on February 27, 1928 on a farm just outside of Brenham, Texas, the second child of Herbert and Erna Gummelt.

Bernadine and her family moved to Waco as her father searched for work during the Great Depression. She attended and graduated from Waco High School where she met her eventual husband, Foy Wallace Watson, Jr. They were married on April 21, 1947 following his return from Pacific service with the US Navy in World War II. They were married for 63 years until his death in 2010.

Following the birth of their son, Foy Wallace Watson, III (1949) the family moved to San Antonio, Texas where Foy Jr. was stationed as a Revenue Officer for the IRS. In 1952 their second son, Richard Lee Watson was born and in 1955 the family was reassigned to the small town of Victoria, Texas where their daughter Cynthia Kay was born in 1958. They were relocated once more by the Government in 1962 to the city of Austin, Texas where she remained until after her husband's death when she returned to her childhood home of Waco.

During this time she was a devoted wife and mother and spent much of her time raising her children. As the children grew older, she found time to work in administration as the IRS Service Center and ultimately to become a Master Florist. Following her husband's retirement from Government service they opened Vogue Floral Designs on Anderson Lane in North Austin where they exercised their specialty catering many weddings.

Bernadine was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. She and her family traveled every summer, camping in State & National parks all over the country. She was a skilled seamstress and loved to read. She and her husband were very active in the Crestview Baptist Church where she served as Secretary to the pastor for many years. She was a devoted member of the Eastern Star organization where she served as Worthy Matron. Bernadine will be remembered for her warm smile, generous heart and kindness to everyone.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her older brother Herbert Lee and younger sister Inez (Dickey). She is survived by her 3 children, 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren, as well as her niece Martha Jane Cole and nephew Jerry Summers and finally by her brother-in-law, Tommy Gene Watson who will officiate her service.

Her graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on February 21, 2026 at Waco Memorial Park, 6623 S. IH 35, Waco, TX. Gathering will begin in the chapel at 1:30 pm.

Our mom will be deeply missed but forever loved and remembered.

Older children and teens often want to share something special about the person who died. Inviting them to speak during the funeral gives them a chance to do that in a way that feels personal. They might tell a favorite memory, read a poem, or say a few words about what their loved one meant to them. Having a voice in the service helps them feel like a valued part of the farewell.

Young people approach this differently - some want to speak themselves, others prefer to write something for someone else to read, and some choose to honor their loved one simply by being present and listening. We're here to help you find what feels right for each child or teen in your family.

Last week we had the honor of surprising Kay Reed, from The Grandson of Waco with her Waco Caregiver award! Here is a little about Kay from one of her nominations: "Kay is a phenomenal caregiver that is sacrificial to her 100 year old client that adores her. She is also caregiving for her husband who has been in a terminal state for a while and permanently in severe medical care. She is very loving and always willing to help. She goes above and beyond. Her clients always request her and know she is worth her weight in gold. She is a special human that lives a special life of caregiving for others day in and day out."

We appreciate you, Kay, and know that you make a huge difference in our community, thank you for all you do!
