Wishing a Happy Veteran’s Day to those who sacrificed so much to protect and serve our country. Here is a sneak peek of some of the cards given to us for our Annual Letters for Vets drive.

This week’s theme, “Beyond the Diagnosis,” celebrates the people we care for, their lives, stories, and the moments that matter most. Hospice care isn’t just about the illness. It’s about helping people live well and with their dignity. This drive is just one of the many things we do every year to care for our community and to focus on improving their well-being far beyond the physical aspects.

Thank you to tulosomidwayprimaryschool, Calallen High School Cheer, Grace Preschool at Grace UMC, Calallen FFA, Calallen Floral Design, and River Hills Baptist Church for your contributions. Over the past week, we have received some of the most gorgeous and thoughtful submissions.

Hopping on the trend with our spin on a

An individual doesn't have to wait for their physician or a hospital visit to mention the need for additional support in the home. You can advocate for your family, friends, and neighbors by knowing the signs and symptoms that could indicate a need for increased care. Below is a list of general symptoms that indicate it may be time to give our 24/7 available line a ring. As always, evaluations are free of any obligation, and our marketing team is always happy to travel to you!

▪️Desire to stop uncomfortable or ineffective treatments.
🔸Desire to focus on comfort measures and avoid repeated hospitalizations.
▪️Frequent hospitalizations or emergency room visits (2 or more within 6 months).
🔸Recurrent or intractable infections.
▪️Progressive unintentional weight loss (>10% in 6 months).
🔸Increasing weakness.
▪️Increased dependency on activities of daily living.
🔸Increasing oxygen dependence or SOB at rest.
▪️Worsening edema, chest pain, or shortness of breath.
🔸Irregular heartbeats are resistant to treatment.
▪️Trouble swallowing or choking with swallowing.
🔸Persistent symptoms such as pain, nausea, diarrhea, and/or SOB caused by serious illness.

Our Annual Letters for Vets campaign has began! Every year we partner with local schools, clubs and organizations to collect hand drawn/written letters and cards to distribute to the Veterans that call the care facilities in our community, home.

We already have received some cards, make sure to drop yours off to the office no later than November 5th. Please share and tag a club/organization that you know would love to be apart of this year’s campaign!

In 2021, Devoted HHS received the certification through the Dementia Friendly Corpus Christi Initiative. As part of our requirements and pledge to the organization, we aim to provide individuals in the community living with brain change a unique understanding of their needs across all disciplines and resources to aid their journey through this illness.

This September, we are observing by sharing with our community the Medicare guidelines for admission to care under a diagnosis of Dementia/Alzheimer’s. As always, if you need any questions or feel that a loved one might benefit from care but aren’t sure they qualify don’t hesitate to reach out. Evaluations are free and of no obligation!

The Purple Heart, established August 7th, 1782, is a symbol of courage, dedication, and the deep cost of freedom. Let us use tomorrow to reflect on the courage of these heroes and thank the Purple Heart recipients for their service and sacrifices.
