Registration for the Rochester Area Jaycees' “Safety Town” program, which teaches pre-kindergartners various aspects of life safety, is currently open through the Rochester Enrichment Office. In its 39th year of operation, this summer program seeks to reduce childhood injury by introducing four-, five- and six-year-old children to basic safety concepts through the use of interactive experiences. Registrations will be accepted until all available slots are filled.

“Safety Town” is set up to resemble a small-scale “town” with portable buildings, sidewalks, roads, and street signs. The appealing “Safety Town” learning environment is used as a practice area for several of the safety lessons. and p.m. classes with the morning class from 9:00 am to 11:30 am and the afternoon class from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. All lessons and activities relate to a specific topic each day such as Traffic and Pedestrian Safety, Fire Safety, Personal Safety, and Home Safety with special visits from the Sheriff, and Police. On the last day of class parents are encouraged to celebrate the “Safety Town” graduation, at which each child will receive a certificate and “Safety Town” t-shirt. We are currently working on putting together two two-day camps planned for later in the summer, tentatively scheduling one over a weekend and one over weekdays. This program will not be offered through RCS Enrichment this year. Please check this page or our website for updated info.
We will keep you updated as more plans come together and as always we do appreciate the support.

Hello Safety Town Families,

We wanted to let you know about some changes we've had to make to the program.

First, we are so grateful for the outpour of support. We are so happy to see so many new and returning interested campers. Having said that, we are committed to offering a quality and safe camp for you.
Coronavirus has complicated our situation with staffing, namely because we rely on teen leaders. The decision was not reached lightly, but we are unable to run 8 days of Safety Town for each session.
We wanted to provide you with a great experience, instead of no experience, and the only way we can do that this year is to shorten our camp. We have opted to give a 1 day camp instead on July 15th and July 29th, which would have been the second Thursday of your given session. Those already registered should be contacted by Enrichment about options for their camper. We hope to be able to show your camper as many safety skills as possible in our time together, where we will be offering stations for each child to visit. More details will be to come in email and on our page once we get closer to the event. Thank you again for your understanding and your patience, and we hope to see you soon, either this summer or in years to come.

Thanks and Stay Safe,

The Safety Town Team

Hello Safety Town families!

We hope you and yours are safe and well during these uncertain times. First, we want to thank all of our first responders, medical staff, teachers, and frontline workers who are keeping us going; we couldn't do this without each and every one of you!!

We also wanted to provide you with an update on this summer's programming.
For now, as of April 19th, Rochester Community Schools Enrichment has put all summer programming on hold and they are not currently taking registrations. We are eager to get back together and learn and play along with everyone once it's deemed safe to do so.
Our current tentative backup plan if summer camps are cancelled would be to make some online content available for families to do with their children at home. In addition, we’d like to possibly offer an in-person safety themed outdoor event at a later date.

We will continue to closely monitor the Enrichment department's updates and let our families know when we make our next decisions or receive new information.

Thanks and Stay Safe,
The Safety Town Team
