ROCovery We are a supportive inclusive community of physically active SOBER individuals

ROCovery Fitness is a peer-led supportive community of physically active individuals brought together by sober living. Our goal is to foster a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for healing and recovery—To help individuals rediscover their inner strength and resilience through fun, fitness and sober social connection. We are a not-for-profit community-based social care provider bringing fitness and non-fitness based classes and events as well as peer recovery support services to individuals with SUD in our community. All of our programs are free and open to ANYONE with at least 48-hours of continuous sobriety. We welcome friends, family members and ANYONE who chooses to live a sober lifestyle.

Our way of introducing you to some of our amazing volunteer instructors through this series of instructor spotlights, where you can get to know a little more about them and what drives their willingness to connect and give back to the community.

Q: WHAT EVENTS/CLASSES DO YOU COACH?

A: “Wordplay Wednesday!”

Q: WHEN SHOULD WE SHOW UP TO BE A PART OF YOUR CLASS/EVENT?

A: “5:00 Every Wednesday.”

VOLUNTEERING HERE?

A: “About 6 months.”

Q: WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO ROCOVERY?

A: “When I first entered recovery, I quickly realized the importance of being part of a recovery community, putting myself somewhere where I had the opportunity to connect to others, be my self, and explore new places, people, and things. ROCovery was one of the tirst places where I was able to find all of those things.”

Q: Why do you volunteer with ROCovery?

A: "I have wanted to volunteer for many years, things seemed to get in the way and now that I have time, want to give back to the community and help other people.”

Q: What's one strength, skill or ability you are most proud of?

A: "One of my strengths is that I enjoy being around other people. If possible, I enjoy helping others, things like donating food to organizations, finding needs in the community and meeting those needs where I can. I am a good listener with a good sense of humor. I love country music, yes that is a strength!
Also volunteer at Aldergate Community Dinner and just enjoy being involved."

A: "Cheetos."

Q: Favorite superhero?

A: "Superman."

Q: Pizza or Tacos?

A: "Pizza.”

Q: TV show or book you're into currently?

A: "Chicago Wednesdays."

You can find George in the community room greeting folks, being a welcoming light to everyone who comes in, and connecting with others in meaningful and compassionate conversations ☺️
