Procedural skills lab training 🩻✨

The General Radiology practice at Mayo Clinic in Rochester recently launched a hands-on training initiative to support surgical technologists as they adapt to increasing equipment variation, exam complexity, and the fast-paced operating room environment.

Hosted in the Procedural Skills Mastery Lab, sessions provided a low-stress space to build confidence, refresh skills, and gain experience with key technologies like the O-arm, GE OEC 3D Elite, and Ziehm systems. With support from the Stealth team and the use of realistic models and phantoms, technologists engaged in practical, case-based learning.

Participants highlighted meaningful improvements in technical skills and team collaboration—reinforcing a strong commitment to continuous learning and staff development across Rochester Radiology. 👏

👏 Exciting news in radiology education!

The ACGME Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Dr. Michael Fox to the Review Committee for Radiology, shared during the 2026 ACGME Annual Educational Conference in San Diego. Dr. Fox is one of three new members joining the 12-person committee and will serve a six-year voting term beginning July 1, 2026.

In this important role, committee members evaluate residency and fellowship programs nationwide—ensuring they meet the highest standards in radiology education. From reviewing applications to assessing faculty and resources, their work helps shape the future of radiology and supports continuous program excellence.

Dr. Fox, who has served as Program Director for the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program since 2020, brings deep experience and leadership to this national effort.

By stepping onto the dance floor, she helped raise awareness and support for patients and families affected by kidney disease—showcasing how care extends far beyond the clinical setting 🩺💙

🌟 Inspiring futures in radiology! 🌟

The Arizona Radiology Belonging Committee recently welcomed 50 students from Metro Tech High School to Mayo Clinic’s Integrated Education and Research Building for an immersive Radiology Career Day 👩‍⚕️🔬

Students explored the field of radiology through hands-on, interactive stations led by dedicated volunteers across the department. From learning about real patient cases to experiencing ultrasound procedures, CT and MRI technology, and radiology IT demonstrations, the event provided a firsthand look at the many career paths within radiology 🧠🩻💡

The day wrapped up with a Q&A panel and a visit from Workforce Development, where students learned about internship, shadowing, and volunteer opportunities at Mayo Clinic 🎓🤝

🎉🏅 A huge congratulations to our amazing 2nd year diagnostic radiology residents for bringing home the silver medal at the 4th annual Sonogames! 🎉🏅 Competing as Team Norway, they showcased their incredible skills and teamwork against seven other teams, including the talented Emergency Department residency program. The Olympic-themed event, packed with 30 trivia questions, mini team challenges, and escape room adventures, was a thrilling test of knowledge and collaboration.

Dr. Ajit Goenka, Professor of Radiology, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Surgeon’s Surgeon Award in Diagnostic Radiology by the Division of Hepatobiliary and Pancreas Surgical Oncology at Mayo Clinic Rochester.

This newly established, peer-conferred honor recognizes the clinician surgeons trust most with their most complex, high-acuity patients — a distinction grounded in years of collaboration, expertise, and unwavering professionalism.

Dr. Goenka was selected unanimously, with Dr. Mark Truty describing him as a “trusted and indispensable clinical partner.”

In true team spirit, Dr. Goenka shared: “Honors like this are earned by teams, not individuals… I may hold the certificate, but it reflects the daily work of our entire Radiology team.”
