Breath Therapy MN

Breath Therapy MN I help people in Rochester, MN relieve chronic pain, stress and tension using breath and nervous system based therapy.

This work utilizes a somatic approach to muscle and breath re-education for balance and harmony within. Somatic exercises are designed to re-educate chronic muscle tension through small, mindful contractions and releases. By doing this we can reconnect "lost" or "stuck" muscles that may feel tense and sore. With consistent practice we learn to keep our bodies in a relaxed and balanced state, great

ly improving stamina, mobility and strength. This not only feels great for our bodies, but it has a profound impact on our nervous system. As we work on resorting function through the spine, shoulders, pelvis and hips we find balance and harmony in our system. We then can progress to restoring functional movement through therapeutic yoga and strength through traditional asana. Essentially moving from a state out of balance and back to center and harmony. Pranayama is a large part of my classes as well. Functional breathing is essential for the practice, we cannot reset our nervous systems if our body is in a state of stress. Slow, low and deep breathing keeps our bodies in a parasympathetic state, where we can rest, digest and heal. We learn to relax and keep the mind in a peaceful state!

Most people don’t realize how much their breathing affects the way they feel.

Stress, tension, low energy…
it’s not just mental—it’s physiological.

Breath therapy is about understanding that connection.

Not forcing the breath.
Not trying to “fix” it right away.

But learning how to observe it,
and work with it.

Because when your breathing changes,
your whole system responds.

If you’re curious, start simple:
notice how you’re breathing right now.

Breathing is movement.

Subtle… but constant.
Every movement in your body is shaped by the way you breathe.

When you slow down and observe it,
your breath becomes a tool.

A way to move with less friction.
And less friction = a healthier system.

When the system is healthy, it feels good.

Breathe well… and your body will respond.

Your nervous system listens to your exhale.

When you slow it down and lengthen it, you gently signal safety to the body.
This is where the shift happens.

Try it:
Inhale softly…
Exhale slower than you think you need.

Let it be quiet. Smooth. Unforced.

Stop mouth breathing with this simple trick 👇

Most people don’t realize that mouth breathing keeps the body in a low-level stress state.

Try this:

Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth (Jiva Mudra)
Close your lips gently
Breathe through your nose

This simple shift helps:
• Improve oxygen efficiency
• Calm your nervous system
• Reduce over-breathing

Start with 1–2 minutes and notice how your body responds.

Awareness is the first step.

If you’re dealing with shoulder pain, try slowing this down.

Most people move too fast and force the stretch…
but your nervous system responds better to gentle, controlled movement.

Moving slowly helps your shoulder release tension instead of guarding against it.

Save this and come back to it when your shoulder feels tight.

Stress doesn’t start in your mind.
It starts in your breath.

Shallow, fast breathing keeps your body stuck in a stress response…
even when nothing is actually wrong.

The good news — you can interrupt that cycle.

With simple, focused breathing, you can:
• slow the nervous system
• improve clarity
• restore control

It doesn’t take much.
Just awareness and a few minutes.

Stress and posture can force our breathing into chest and neck

This causes smaller muscles to breathe the body and takes considerable effort

Overworked muscles become fatigued, tight and stiff

Breathing relaxes the tension and brings relief

03/20/2026

If stretching hasn’t fixed your pain…

It’s not just tight muscles.

Your nervous system is still holding tension.

Until that changes, the tightness keeps coming back.

That’s the work I do.
