Centennial baby! This little one, River Quinn Markle, was born on the 100th anniversary of the first baby born at Strong Memorial Hospital on January 14, 1926. Since then, thousands of families have begun their stories here, cared for by the compassionate teams at UR Medicine.

A century of care begins at the front door. From the official opening 100 years ago to the present day, the entrance to Strong Memorial Hospital has welcomed generations of patients, their families, and caregivers. Here’s a look at how it’s evolved since 1926.

In 1975, the main entrance moved from the original location on Crittenden to its current home on Elmwood Avenue (color photos).

We celebrated another milestone this week! 100 years ago, Dr. John J. Morton (below) performed the first surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital on Jan. 7, 1926.

Welcome, Amelia! Our first baby of the New Year!

As the world welcomed in 2026, parents Holly and Frankie, along with sisters Gabriella and Natalie, welcomed a new addition to their family.

Baby Amelia was born at 6:40 a.m. this morning after a very short labor. All are doing well. Amelia received a baby gift from Strong Memorial – a bib with a Centennial celebration logo on it as the hospital prepares to celebrate its 100th year in 2026.
