Go Beau! Go GCH! Go Bills! 🏈 Former Buffalo Bills quarterback and Hall of Famer Jim Kelly came by to honor our GCH 6th-floor ambassador, Albert, with a Safety Hero Award—a friendship that began when Jim’s family was here for his grandson, Beau, earlier this year.

Before the ceremony, Jim took time to visit with patients and staff on the 6th floor—taking photos, signing autographs, and sharing words of encouragement and gratitude.

Thank you, Jim, for helping us celebrate the kindness and positivity Albert and the care team bring every day.

Thank you, Tom Golisano! Proud to have GCH as the flagship to this national alliance!

In 2002, we became the very first Golisano Children's Hospital.
Today, we are honored to help announce the formation of the new Golisano Children's Alliance!🎉

The Golisano Children's Alliance is a network of 10 connected children's hospitals across eight states working together to expand services, broaden collaboration, and ensure children and families have access to the highest quality care close to home.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Tom Golisano, who has changed and saved countless lives through his remarkable support of pediatric healthcare. For over two decades, we have been able to grow, innovate, and provide exceptional care for our patients — thanks to Tom's vision and enduring commitment.

Connecticut Children's, Penn State Health Children's Hospital, UK Kentucky Children's Hospital, University of Maryland Golisano Children's Hospital, UVM Children's Hospital, WVU Medicine Children's... welcome to the Golisano Children's Hospital family!

We are excited to have completed an important renovation to our Adult Psychiatry unit! Our newly updated space is an investment into our patients and staff.

It enhances safety and a calming environment for our care teams to continue to provide support, safety, dignity, and recovery. Thank you to our teams who deliver compassionate, expert care every day.

"We are so excited to be working in such a beautiful space! The renovations have created a warm, brighter, and more welcoming space for staff and patients.

The renovation brought many new safety features including barricade and ligature safe doors, weighted furniture, and staff safety duress alarms. The renovations truly focused on patient-centered care," said Nurse Manager Lucy Baxendell, BSN, RN, PMH-BC.

A remarkable milestone on 43400: our Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Unit has been CLABSI-free for over a year!

A CLABSI—central line-associated bloodstream infection—is a serious infection that can occur when germs enter the bloodstream through a central line. Because many of our patients live with long-term central lines, PA catheters, or even external devices that pump their blood while awaiting transplant, they are at exceptionally high risk.

Despite these challenges, our nurses, physicians, and staff have upheld the highest standards of infection prevention and patient care.

Congratulations and thank you to the team for always prioritizing patient safety and quality care!

Strong Memorial staff left their mark -- literally(!) -- on the future of care in our community. Team members signed the final steel beam for our historic Strong Expansion Project, which will nearly triple the size of the emergency department.

Kathy Parrinello, president and CEO of Strong and Highland Hospitals, also stopped by to sign the beam. “It’s meaningful and special because this is a huge milestone,” Parrinello said. “In less than two years we’ll be moving into the new tower and it is so exciting. Everyone knows how badly we need this for our patients and the community and it is fabulous to be at this point.”

This milestone is a symbol of progress, teamwork, and a celebration of the future of care for Rochester. 💙

Congratulations to Spenser Schmidt, RN, who we recently celebrated with a DAISY Award! 🌼

Spenser went above and beyond to honor a military veteran on comfort care. With the family’s blessing, he presented them with a flag when their loved one passed—a gesture of respect and compassion that meant so much in a difficult moment.

He is now working to make this a hospital-wide initiative, ensuring more families experience this meaningful tribute. 💙
