It is no accident that all of the world's major religions teach some form of the practice of sacrificing our attachments to the lesser gods of our own making in order to clear our hearts and minds for the highest good: the light and love of God. Lent is not about sadness or punishment; it is about preparation.

In today's Gospel, a young, rich man approaches Jesus to learn how he, too, can embody the peace and light of God. What a teaching for us! In my sharing today, Isha Das will ask you to consider the ways that we all have been that young man by looking to our wealth, power, social status, or another person for our ultimate security. Isha Das will also share three concrete ways that we can make room for all that our Beloved God wants to give to us.

In today's Gospel, Jesus gives us a challenge that is humanly impossible to conquer: "Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you."

Today Isha Das will explain in very practical terms how we can understand what Jesus meant by "enemy" and "love." Then he will share with you how we can nurture the spirit of forgiveness so that we can extend it to our brothers and sisters. "Love your enemies" is completely impossible yet completely doable for us all.
