Psych Me Up Consulting Sport Psychology Training for Every Athlete My name is Natalie Gurnett, and my story begins as a gymnast in Upstate, New York.

Like most high level gymnasts I would train 25 - 30 hours per week dreaming of competing as a Division 1 college athlete. During this journey, I endured several severe injuries leading to fear and a lack of confidence. I thought I needed to face these challenges alone and at times felt very isolated from my teammates. Throughout my work, I have realized that my personal experience with mental barriers is far too common amongst athletes, as mental performance training was not a resource that was readily available or widely understood. Overcoming these obstacles shaped who I am today and were instrumental in what drove me to pursue a Master's in Sport and Exercise Psychology.

Self-awareness is key whenever you are feeling unmotivated, frustrated, anxious, or overwhelmed. Listen to your body and ask yourself, what do I need right now? What message is my brain and body trying to share with me? Once you can identify why you’re feeling the way you do, you will be able to find healthy coping strategies that are effective to your performance as an athlete!
