Thinking about my sibs today, Penny Clark Diggs and Kerry Clark . Also all of those cousins and unofficial siblings who have helped me keep my balance all these years. You know who you are.

Researchers have found that a warm, close bond with a sibling in early adult life is predictive of good emotional health later in life, with less loneliness, anxiety and depression.

In a frigid snowstorm, we can still get it on 8n Rochester! Jordan Health hosted SEIU 1199, Rochester Regional Hospital, University of Rochester Medical Center and others as we stood together to send a message to Albany, with the help of our local delegation, including Demond Meeks, Samra Brouk , and Harry Bronson. We are laser focused on our mission to serve our patients with dignity and respect, regardless of their ability to pay. But it costs us 44% more than we receive to do that. Like hospitals and nursing homes, FQHCs (Federally Qualified Health Centers) are requesting 10% more in Medicaid funding. We need to be able to build our workforce and pay them accordingly as they build their skills and flexibility. We need the technology to aid us in providing care that will defy expected outcomes.

Thanks to 1199 for organizing the rally. Lord, that BBQ smelled good!

I'm going to miss my good friend, mentor and boss, Dr. Janice Harbin. You've left an indelible mark on our community and me, personally. I have the feeling I'll be visiting Motown every now and again.

White House Declares Monkeypox a Public Health Emergency

Interestingly the Jynneos vaccination can be given into the skin (like a TB test instead of under the skin at a 5th of the dose, allowing more people to be vaccinated.

Intradermal injections that use one fifth of the normal dose of the Jynneos vaccine will extend the limited reach of the current supply, which is under high demand.

For the first time, a heart from a donor with HIV has been transplanted into a recipient living with HIV, according to Montefiore Health System in New York City, where the transplant was performed.

Such a transplant was made possible by passage of the HIV Organ Policy Equity (HOPE) Act in 2013, but it took nearly 9 years to see the first successful transplant.

The option to transplant a heart from an HIV-positive donor to an HIV-positive recipient became possible 9 years ago with the HOPE Act. Now the first such transplant has been completed at Montefiore.

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month is observed each July to bring awareness to the unique struggles that racial and ethnic minority communities face regarding mental illness in the United States. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it harder for racial and ethnic minority groups to access mental health and substance use treatment services.

Throughout the month, the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) will focus on promoting tools and resources addressing the stigma about mental health among racial and ethnic minority populations. OMH encourages state, tribal, and local leaders, community-based organizations, faith leaders, healthcare providers, and individuals to educate their communities about mental health stigma.

Visit the OMH National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month webpage for shareable social media messages, downloadable graphics, mental health resources, webinar recordings, our free and accredited behavioral health e-learning program, and our Behavioral Health Implementation Guide.

I'm looking forward to a boost of a newer cocktail this fall! Meanwhile, masks don't hurt. Consider them especially in indoor events and in crowds. And please stay home when you are ill and protect others.

The government has greenlit new vaccines to defend against the latest Omicron variants. But the shots won’t arrive until the fall, and cases are rising now.

Most federally qualified health centers are committed to remaining independent of hospital affiliation. In order to maintain their independence, it is critical that FQHCs face work together more closely on data pooling and and sharing best practices for improving community health, according to a rec...
