Kelsey’s journey at Mayo Clinic began as a Summer III nurse intern. After graduating, she cared for patients as a nurse in various nursing specialties, building the critical-care foundation that would shape her current career.

Today, as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), she cares for patients during surgery, guiding them safely through vulnerable moments.

Beyond patient care, Kelsey serves in leadership roles, supports CRNA recruitment, chairs the Nurse Anesthesia Alumni Association and mentors the next generation of nurse anesthetists.

Her path reflects the many care teams across Mayo Clinic who continue to grow, lead, teach and make a difference for patients every day. https://jobs.mayoclinic.org/CRNA

Earlier this month, Mayo Clinic medical teams stepped outside of campus and onto the course at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

These candid moments capture the care teams who supported this large event. From early-morning briefings to staffing medical tents across the course, Mayo Clinic physicians, nurses, paramedics and support staff worked together to help keep fans, players and event staff safe.

Caring for our community looks different every day and sometimes it means showing up before sunrise and staying ready for whatever the day brings.

Thank you to the many volunteers who made it possible.

In 2013, Jeff became a living kidney donor, a decision that changed both his brother’s life and his own. After experiencing the evaluation, surgery and recovery process firsthand at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, Jeff felt called to help others navigate the same journey.

Today, he serves as a Living Donor Nurse Coordinator at Mayo Clinic, guiding donors from their first phone call through surgery and follow-up care.

“Being a donor is a wonderful opportunity to greatly improve someone else’s quality of life,” Jeff shares.

His story is part of Faces of Compassion, a series honoring transplant team members whose personal experiences shape the care they provide every day. For nearly three years, Ashley Westberry has cared for patients undergoing chemotherapy, transplant and cellular therapies, many of whom experience long hospitalizations and frequent admissions. She is intentional about creating moments of joy, recognizing that small celebrations can bring comfort during difficult seasons.

“Our patients become like family,” Westberry says. “Celebrating milestones and everyday victories reminds them, and those on their care team, that joy still exists, even on the hardest days.”

From organizing surprise celebrations and bedside weddings to decorating the unit for holidays, her efforts uplift patients, families and her colleagues.

Westberry was nominated by her colleague Cat Tan, who shared, “Ashley’s compassion shines every day on our unit, especially for patients facing isolation and emotional stress.”

A broken pinkie. A bright pink and orange cast. And a giant Stitch stuffie with a bigger purpose.

After a trip to in Rochester, 9-year-old Landon spotted a toy in the gift shop — not for himself, but for another child who might need a little extra joy.

Mayo Clinic recently gave Moments of Joy funds to all staff, students and volunteers, inviting them to bring happiness to patients and their loved ones. As a Mayo staff member, Landon's mom, Heidi Zunker, used her funds to buy the stuffie for the hospital's Child Life program.

"Hopefully a bummer day for my kiddo turns into a positive one for another patient!" she says.

Many CRNAs, like JP, are drawn to Mayo Clinic for its culture of teamwork, mutual respect and an unwavering focus on the patient. During complex cases, CRNAs collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, where every voice is valued and care decisions are guided by shared expertise and compassion.

Those moments reflect the impact CRNAs make every day and why their role is essential to patient care.
