During Child Abuse Prevention Month, it’s important to remember that prevention begins with support, education, and connection. When families have the resources they need, children are more likely to grow up feeling safe, supported, and valued.
At SPCC, children and families in our community can access programs designed to strengthen relationships and build resilience, including:

• Family Trauma Intervention Program – trauma-informed counseling and support for children and caregivers navigating experiences such as violence, loss, or grief.
• Healthy Families Monroe – helping caregivers build strong, nurturing relationships with their children.
• Mary Ellen Institute - providing training and consultation to child-serving providers across disciplines.
• Supervised and Therapeutic Visitation Programs – creating safe environments that help children maintain healthy connections with caregivers.
• Teenage Parent Support Services – providingguidance and resources for young parents as they build stable, healthy families.
• Women, Infants & Children – providing nutrition and breastfeeding support to expectant parents and young children across our communities.
These programs reflect SPCC’s mission to partner with children and families, advocate for their well-being, and strengthen relationships that help communities thrive.
Because every family deserves support and every child deserves the opportunity to grow up safe.

They walk into rooms most of us couldn't. They sit with children who have experienced the unthinkable. They navigate systems, trauma, grief, and hope - sometimes all in the same afternoon.

And then they come back tomorrow.

March is Social Work Month, and at SPCC, we want to say clearly: we see you. We are in awe of you.

The work our social workers and other child serving professionals do every day is not easy. But what they carry, they carry with extraordinary grace - showing up for the most vulnerable children and families in our community with skill, steadiness, and a commitment that never wavers.

To every helper serving children at SPCC and across our region: thank you. You truly are helping to heal the past and nurture the future.💙

March is National Nutrition Month - and healthy beginnings start long before a child's first day of school.

SPCC's Finger Lakes WIC program supports pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and young children with nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and supplemental food benefits.

In 2025, WIC impacted more than 43,000 individuals across our region, and this year, we're proud to share that WIC launched a new collaboration with Newark Wayne Hospital to bring breastfeeding peer counselors directly to the labor and delivery floor.

Because the earliest moments matter most. 🥦🍼

If you or someone you know may be eligible for WIC, learn more at spcc-roch.org.

Did you know? In 1929 - nearly a century ago - SPCC hired a young psychologist named Dr. Carl Rogers.

Long before he became one of the most influential figures in modern psychology, Rogers was here, working alongside our team, developing ideas that would later reshape how the world understands human connection and healing.

It's no coincidence. SPCC has always believed that relationships are at the heart of healing. That belief was true in 1929. It's still true today.

As we mark 150 years of healing the past and nurturing the future, we're proud to carry forward a legacy of innovation that has shaped not just Rochester, but the broader field of child and family care.

For 150 years, SPCC has been our community’s safety net.
Through countless community changes over the years, we have remained a steadfast place of healing for children and families. But we didn’t do it alone. We are still here because of neighbors like you.
As we celebrate our 150th anniversary, we are inviting you to help us build the next century of hope. We are looking for Champions - supporters who will commit a monthly gift of just $15 in honor of our 150 years.
Why monthly?
Because a crisis doesn't happen on a schedule. Your steady support allows us to say "yes" the moment a family needs help, ensuring our programs are ready 24/7.
Start being a champion today. It takes less than two minutes to set up, but the impact lasts a lifetime. https://www.spcc-roch.org/donation/

February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a critical time to talk about what healthy love looks like—especially for young parents navigating relationships while raising the next generation. 🧡

At SPCC, our Teenage Parent Support Services (TAPSS) team walks alongside young parents (ages 21 and under) to build safety, confidence, and self-sufficiency. We know that healthy relationships are the foundation for a stable family.

TAPSS doesn't just offer case management; we offer a partnership. Whether individually or as couples, we help young parents:
✅ Recognize the signs of healthy vs. unhealthy relationships.
✅ Build strong co-parenting skills.
✅ Advocate for their own safety and their child’s well-being.

Your future, and your child’s future, deserves kind, safe love.
