Congratulations to Drs. David Adler and Beau Abar on receipt of their Lung Cancer Screening grant awarded by the Lung Cancer Research Foundation!

This vital research will help EM fulfill its broad mission of patient care for acute conditions as well as conditions such as cancer that, if caught early, can dramatically improve outcomes. With many patients lacking primary care and healthcare, ED screenings are valuable!

Congratulations Dr. Andrew Gyle! He is the 4th U of R recipient of the 2025 NY ACEP Unsung Hero Award. Dr. Gyle is a 2009 EM Residency Alumnus. He came to Rochester upon completing his medical school degree at Rosalind Franklin University Chicago Medical School

For over 16 years, Dr. Gyle has been an ED physician at Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY. He is it a work horse in the ED, working many hours to provide caring and compassionate care to the patients in Rochester as well as smaller community ED's outside of the county. Dr. Gyle is very knowledgeable physician who is calm and completely manages his critical patients. He is active in teaching young physicians, just as he was back in residency. He had a joy for teaching medical students and looked for ways to help facilitate flow and throughput in the ED.

When not performing patient care, Dr. Gyle serves on the Quality Assurance Committee. He is well liked by all the staff due to his approachability and eagerness to jump in whenever he is called upon.

Congratulations Dr. Gyle. We are thrilled that you received this award and that we can say you were a trainee in our program. Thank you for continuing the love of teaching and for helping the most critical patients in our community!

It is with great pride that I nominate Dr. Andrew Gyle as a New York ACEP Unsung Hero. Over the past 16 years he has been working at Unity Hospital’s Emergency Department. He is a very carrying and compassionate doctor. He has been for years...

Congratulations to Dr. David Gibbs--our 3rd of 4 alumni that received the NY ACEP 2025 Unsung Hero Award! Dr. Gibbs is a 2018 EM Residency Alumnus that came to us from SUNY Upstate Medical School.

Upon graduating from EM Residency at the University of Rochester, Dr. Gibbs became an attending physician at Rochester Regional Health. He rotates at several of their community sites, including Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic. His excellent and efficient delivery of care have made him an asset to their team.

Dr. Gibbs stays current on the medical literature (all those journal clubs in residency!) and he is often found keeping his peers current on the material. He has excellent procedural skills and knowledge base that makes him a great resource to the rural emergency department in Clifton Springs.

Congratulations Dr. Gibbs! You make us proud to say that he trained in our program! You were a standout in residency and have carried that over into your career! They are fortunate to have you in their ED!

Dr. David Gibbs is a true asset to the Rochester Regional Health Emergency Medicine Team. He rotates at several of our sites but has been a welcome addition to Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic, now rotating for several years. He has always been a contributor from...

Congratulations to the 2nd of 4 Residency Alumni to have received the NY ACEP Unsung Hero Award! Dr. Suven Cooper is a 2022 EM Residency Alumnus and came to the U of R from The University of Vermont Medical School.

Upon completion of residency, Dr. Cooper became an attending physician and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Richmond University Medical Center in Staten Island, NY.

Dr. Cooper is constantly thinking and looking for ways to improve their emergency department, provides feedback on how to manage patients, and move them through their department. He is quick to make sure others in the department are recognized for the good work they do on a regular basis. He organizes activities outside the department focused on wellness. In organizing these activities, he takes care to make sure all in the department are invited.

Dr. Cooper is the first to get up when a trauma comes in the department. He is the first colleague to check in whenever another provider has a critical patient. In difficult encounters or patients that need de-escalation, his voice is often the voice of reason that settles the department and returns us to an environment of care.

Dr. Cooper - you make us so proud! You are an amazing physician, colleague and human being. We are proud to say that you trained in our program!

Dr. Cooper has a personality that is warm, inviting, and calm. He joined our institution three years ago and within days became a favorite of our nurses, PA’s. and fellow attendings. He is constantly thinking and looking for ways to improve our department, providing feedback...
