The number one most common pregnancy complication facing 1 in 5 birthing people is a maternal mental health condition. That’s why, as Chair of the Senate Mental Health Committee, I took action to introduce the Maternal Mental Health Workgroup and got it passed in the budget. Now, the Office of Mental Health released the results of our workgroup with New York State’s first ever report on maternal mental health. I look forward to reviewing these recommendations to decrease disparities in care for postpartum mothers and help solve our maternal mortality crisis. Urge Governor Kathy Hochul to sign the Art Therapy Bill!! Art therapy changes lives! 🎨🎭🖌️

▪️Creative Arts Therapy is an accessible form of psychotherapy — well suited to the unique needs of kids and teens who don’t respond well to talk therapy 🙌

▪️LCATs are unique in that we utilize non-verbal, creative therapeutic interventions to provide avenues for accessing unspeakable trauma that many survivors of sexual and physical abuse, violence, combat, and or neglect can find impossible to put into words in traditional verbal therapy 🙌

▪️ Governor Kathy Hochul signing Bill A3319/S1001 into law will give NY families the option to use their health insurance to cover psychotherapy provided by LCATs 🗽An IMPORTANT step in shortening waitlists for affordable mental healthcare and closing the mental health gap throughout New York State 🙌
