Our Story
Momma Moon is a Birth Cycle focused practice. I am a Licensed Massage Therapist, Reiki Practitioner and Full Spectrum Doula working with Persons in Rochester who are on their Birth Cycle Journey. I work with Prospective Parents who have decided to begin Planning for Pregnancy, those seeking Fertility Assistance, those who are pregnant, and support the Fourth Trimester.
Massage is for more than chronic muscle discomforts. Regular massage from before conception can lead to an increased immune response (healthier Pregnancy), decrease in stress, routinely resetting the stress response boosting the rest and digest phase, decrease common complaints in pregnancy by working with muscles to release tension and prepare them for the changes that happen during pregnancy.
Perhaps you have heard that Massage is contraindicated in the first trimester, this is an outdated standard. The current understanding is that a Pregnant Person in their first trimester should avoid anything new (hence starting with massage before you become pregnant). This recommendation is NOT because massage will lead to miscarriage, but because statistically miscarriages occur in greatest number in the first trimester. It is better therefore to avoid new things, so that should a miscarriage occur Parents are not blaming themselves and wondering if something they did contributed to the loss.
