Here’s the truth:
🕊️ Funeral Planning is NOT Morbid
Many people who plan in advance experience a profound sense of relief and peace. Taking this step allows loved ones to feel secure in knowing that their wishes are honored.
🎉 Funeral Planning is NOT Traditional and Dated
Gone are the days of rigid rituals. Today’s funeral planning is all about personalization! The Baby Boomer generation has paved the way for creative celebrations of life, blending tradition with modern choices that truly reflect an individual's spirit.
⏳ Funeral Planning is NOT a Waste of Time
On the contrary, planning ahead saves precious time and alleviates the stress of difficult decisions for survivors. By making choices in advance, families can focus on cherishing memories rather than navigating last-minute arrangements.
At Harris Funeral Home, we believe that planning ahead can be a beautiful and empowering process.

Experiencing the death of a loved one while you’re far from home can be overwhelming and confusing. Here are some important steps and tips to help guide you through:
Notify authorities and family immediately. Contact local emergency services if needed and let family or close friends know.
Contact the funeral home or embassy (if abroad). They can help with arrangements and legal requirements.
Understand local laws. Different regions and countries have different procedures for handling deaths, transportation of remains, and paperwork.
Secure important documents. Keep a copy of the deceased’s ID, medical records, and insurance info handy.
Ask for help. Lean on trusted friends, family, or local professionals to navigate logistics and emotional support.
No matter where a death occurs, compassion, planning, and support make the process a little more manageable. 💙

November is Children’s Grief Awareness Month, a time to honor and support children and teens who have experienced loss. Grief can be confusing and isolating, but no child should face it alone.
This month and especially on Children’s Grief Awareness Day (the third Thursday in November), we encourage families, schools, and communities to offer understanding, compassion, and resources for grieving children.
Let’s help them know they are seen, heard, and supported. 💙

Are you or someone you know a veteran? First and foremost, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your service!
At Harris Funeral Home, we offer various options to honor veterans, including the Military Funeral Honors (MFH) ceremony. This meaningful tribute features the folding and presentation of the United States flag to the veteran's family, along with the playing of Taps, performed by a funeral honors detail made up of at least two members of the Armed Forces.
Who is eligible for an MFH ceremony?
✔️ Military members on active duty or in the Selected Reserve
✔️ Former military members who served on active duty and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable
✔️ Former military members who completed at least one term of enlistment or period of initial obligated service in the Selected Reserve and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable
✔️ Former military members discharged from the Selected Reserve due to a disability incurred or aggravated in the line of duty
If you’re ready to discuss these options in more detail, please call our staff at (585) 544-2041. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

Times have certainly changed since Paul W. Harris established our funeral home in Rochester in 1946. But our commitment to caring for the people in our community has not. Three generations and 70 years later, we’re still serving the needs of Rochester families as one of the oldest independent, family-owned and operated funeral homes and cremation services in our area.
We understand there are other funeral homes in the area to choose from, but there is a reason why families select Harris Funeral Home more often than others. Our philosophy is simple, treat every family as we would like to be treated! We offer world class service and our facilities are state of the art with many accommodating features.
The families who turn to us during a time of loss or for pre arrangement counseling experience our very high standards of service. These standards not only include transparency in funeral pricing but business practices as well.
Our Mission is to care for your family as we would care for members of our own family by providing information, services and merchandise of the highest quality at competitive prices in a dignified and professional manner. We promise to listen to your wishes and always value your trust. We pledge to maintain the reputation our family owned and operated firm has earned by acting with honesty, integrity and sensitivity. It is our policy to go the extra mile in offering the best in personal care before, during and after death.
Compassion, caring and community service are still the foundation of our family. Which is why we’re committed to helping yours.
